Re: Posśble to rate comments?

Why does everybody focus on the person giving the message instead of the content of it?

This is not about me. 2+2 would be vastly improved if this were implemented.

Well, if we do it NOW, it'll be thanks to SumNewb.

Actually, yeah. We should make this happen right now!

That's not true at all. It would be thanks to whomever in charge made the decision and then thanks to the coders who made it a reality.

Ideas mean very, very little. Execution is what matters.

A year from now when large threads are actually readable nobody will know or care who suggested it, least of all me.

I was thinking about execution when I started reading this thread.

I haven't checked to see what this was in reply to, but I noticed this post at the TOTP:

Re: Posśble to rate comments?

Technology aside, literally the only reason not to do this would be because the site owners value high volume low quality posts (and posters) over good content.

There probably is an argument to be made for that in the short run, but ultimately the whole site just continues to slowly morph into the omg threads. As this thread demonstrates nicely.

Of course, we can't put technology aside.

But if we do, that is literally the only reason? It couldn't be because they're unconvinced it would be an improvement?

A couple of my concerns would be:
  • Most (all?) people view threads in a flat mode rather than threaded, and don't always bother to reply directly to a specific post. What happens to their posts in this scenario?
  • We have forums that are run VERY differently. There are forums where most threads are of a question/answer nature, others where conversations are commonplace, and yet others where all the OT silliness often morphs into some of the best threads of those forums.

F

I don't think you know what literally or only mean.

Bobo, I was literally thinking the same thing you were about literally at literally the same time as you.

Re: Posśble to rate comments?

i know plenty of posters who start a new identity everytime they hit x amount of posts

or people still have gimmicks laying around from '06

post count ≠ **** and voting on content would cause some particular problems on 2p2 that you probably aren't aware of but i may or may not have been banned for in the past

just saying

Both of your concerns are technology related. And they are valid concerns. A huge part of getting this done would be how to design and impliment it without killing the magic of what makes the site work currently.

This is the reason why I said the idea alone is relatively worthless. The credit would go to the person who solved these kinds of problems.

Now we are getting somewhere!

What problems would it cause? Why do you think it wouldn't work with 2+2?

Bobo you edited your post to say literally what I was gonna say. Voting on threads doesn't even work here and had to be overhauled and removed altogether in one forum due to abuse. I used to use 10 accounts to vote up really ****ty threads that made me angry.

Lep whatever were u banned for
