NVG is massive though, and will survive without the poker history. Everybody in NVG will know where to find poker history related stuff: in the nearby forum. I think that simply having a forum named Poker History will draw more traffic than what is lost because people in NVG don't "stumble" upon it. More important though, a Poker History forum could develop quality with time, which is not possible as it is now, frankly having the poker history "drown" in NVG, me trying to give first aid with the "Links to Poker History Threads" thread
You could get Johnny Hughes to mod it and we could all watch as Johnny gets mad at himself.

Seriously though I think it's a good idea.

Re: Poker History instead of Poker Headlines

I love what you are doing with the NVG History thread.

It also seems to be well respected as there is not alot of
typical NVG junk posts in there and it is 5 star. Nice job!!!

I am not sure a history forum would be better than what you are currently dong
as I like it as a series of links rather than a discussion forum (which is typically what a forum is for). I would suggest we leave it as it is but have a link to your history thread in The Best of 2 + 2 forum.

Thanks!

But I'd rather see a system that's not dependent on my effort. An own forum would take care of things with time. Of course we could move my link thread to the new forum, and the discussion could go on on the different subforums too. But I think it would be better for poker history to also have "a real home". With time this would give the poker history discussion a possibility to flourish.

I would see the system I've created as better than nothing but worse than the optimal solution, that is, a forum. The greatest value of the collection I think is to give a hint of how broad a subject we are talking about, which should guarantee traffic. Look at how much interest there has been in the poker history subjects in about each and every thread in the link collection!

But people searching for specific subjects of poker history will unfortunately have great difficulties finding anything meaningful fast. And my collection thread drops out of page in a day in NVG.

Re: Poker History instead of Poker Headlines

The problem with backward-looking topics is they run the real risk of getting played out if they sprawl out in a new forum.

I agree with this. The problem with any history forum is that unless the facts are in dispute, there isn't much to discuss. At best, you can discuss whether Doyle Brunson. Amarillo Slim and Sailor Roberts were cheating when they rode the white line while combined their bankroll to play in TX.

I think this speaks for itself as an answer.

If the fear of creating new forums was very dominant, because it can hurt something old, I guess we would have just one mixed forum on 2+2. New forums can bring in something new and exciting, they can be strategic decisions.

In the case of a poker history forum, it would give depth to the whole site. 2+2 just trying to have it would be a great bonus.

How can 2p2 not have a poker history forum? No brainer imo.

Best of 2P2 sticky:

"About this forum

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this forum people will find links to threads throughout the site which have been deemed "special" in one way or another. Only moderators and administrators have the ability to post in this forum, but we will gladly take nominations from anyone. ATF is the best place to offer suggestions. "

Could the History thread in NVG be linked here?

You could post about the history you make. It doesn't have to be on a grand scale around here. Everything we are doing is turning to history all the time, nice to have a place to discuss the highlights and trends.

Re: Poker History instead of Poker Headlines

And right there is why the forum isn't needed. It devolves into current events, and that's what NVG and PH are for.

Though I admit if plaaynde wasn't so in-your-face about it I wouldn't even be arguing

There was a Ray Bradbury story where a time machine is used by gov't to spy on people by only going back a few seconds. something like that

I agree that the history thread is good work and enough. I would have nothing against a history forum I just don't think it would work.
