Re: POG is not Politics - Elliot must go!

Regarding the guy running the game, who gives a **** if he's running a game? Break the rules, get a ban. Be mad at the guy running the game for not being on his best behavior while running a game and thereby screwing over the people playing the game.

Because it's totally normal operating procedure to ban people that are running an 80 person player game that just released a ginormous awesome database for PoG's benefit while not even bothering to talk about how he's going to run his game when he's banned, etc. forcing that person to stay up to 2am until a person who actually cares about the forum comes around and deals with their **** that they caused. Elliot needed to go, what he did was totally inappropriate. I'm fine with banning in a situation like that if there is precedent/warning, but there was none and there was no actual moderating going on afterwards to help PoG. If you're going to moderate PoG and ban people, you need to be around to deal with the consequences of talking with the person to get the games to run still.

Ok. Also, since I just reread the non-cliffs part of yor post, what I highlighted is also bull****, since (a) I was around OBVIOUSLY -- there are posts to show this; (b) you made no effort whatsover to contact me; and (c) I told Felix -- THE ONLY PERSON WHO ASKED -- that you could post on this account LESS THAN A HALF HOUR AFTER YOU WERE BANNED.

So, yeah, thanks for the apologies for "offending" but actually acknowledging the truth would be nice, too.

moderating a game is a huge amount of effort which requires someone to give up a ton of their personal time purely for the enjoyment of the rest of the forum.

if someone violates a serious rule that clearly requires strong repercussions then i agree that actions likely have to be taken, but in a circumstance where the violation is boarderline grounds for a ban (which i think an unspoken agreed upon rule of the pub as opposed to a set rule of 2p2 fits that criteria) the fact that that person in modding a giant game should be something taken into account

after all a mods purpose is to make the forums a better place and a more enjoyable place for everyone else, if the modding decision will cause more harm than good than its probably a bad decision

to say that the fact that hes running a giant game shouldnt make a ****ing difference just shows you dont understand pog or appreciate what it takes to run a game like that

in the end it seems elliot allowed him to continue modding the game using a diff account so the point is moot but i 100% feel that someone contribution to the enjoyment of the forum should be taken into account when the commit a minor "violation"

Re: POG is not Politics - Elliot must go!

My point is that if you have a special reason to value your ability to interact with the community, e.g., staking agreements, coaching arrangements, prop bets, marketplace transactions, modding a POG game, setting up "home" games on PS or FTP, etc., you should be sure to follow all rules/guidelines/customs/conventions. Otherwise, you're leaving yourself open to having that ability to interact taken away.

So it would have been logical to me for the poster running a big game to have toned it down a bit to avoid disappointing the community rather than goofing around close to the edge.

Larry, I don't want to start a war with you, but his is beneath you.

I can't put enough s on this page to express my support for elliot.

I've privy to what has been said about Elliot in skype chat and the attempts at trolling that have been made. If people were hounding me the way they've been hounding and trolling Elliot, I would've exploded after having spent so much time modding a forum just to help out (Elliot was brought in and kindly accepted the task at a time where POG needed more modding).

Hounding is a reach. It's true that most people in POG Skype chat didn't think Elliot was the right kind of mod for POG, and that has been borne out by this incident.

Re: POG is not Politics - Elliot must go!

Banning an account and then telling someone it's okay to post on a side account seems really dumb to me.

I'm not judging the quality of the ban or whether or not it was warranted as I don't know anything more than what's been posted in this thread, but why not just unban (or don't ban at all) the main account if it's going to be fine to post on a known gimmick? Like, what's the point of the ban?

The point was to prevent him from deleting his posts that were already made, which another account wouldn't be able to do.
