question for mods: where do you draw the line between self advertising and discussion?

for instance am I allowed to post links to music EP soundcloud of my own work in house of blogs once it's finished? if not, why do some get to post pictures? a link to my tumblr in the SSPLO forum is blatant self advertisement, but where do the subtleties tie and end(you could say I'm elf advertising with this post - for example - but I hope to come off as humble, sincere, and genuinely curious as I'm on a road to getting banned (70 infraction points) which would be a shame, I think) (I felt my reputation within the ssplo community granted me the right t post to my blog for people to check up on; users such as .... not wishing to name names post to their own creative endeavours all the time )

Your 70 points has nothing to do with any posting in Blogs, as you probably know.

The idea in Blogs is that we don't want posters pulling people to other sites to read their blogs/content. If you want to have a blog here, then post the content here. How I handle the rest of the linking to other sites stuff is, basically, if 2+2 allows you to post something here (like an image), then you should post it here. Since it doesn't (I don't think) host music, a link to Soundcloud would be fine. Feel free to PM me with specific questions.
