These really suck.

Is this getting fixed or is it something I just have to get used to?

I’ve had them turn it off. They had indicated that they were going to do something to make it less obnoxious but obviously didn’t.

I was looking for sneakers yesterday and low and behold that site is on 2 plus 2 advertisement spam. Is 2 plus 2 monitoring my browsing and providing links to get advertising dollars?

2+2 isn't monitoring you, but Google is, and they are supplying the ads you're seeing.

You can make/log in to your google account and turn off 'interest based ads', but they'll still be watching...

Doesn't this change just mean Google will SPAM ads at you vs. doing it based on stuff they think you may be interested in based on your browsing history ?

In other words, by turning off "interest based ads" - you still get ads......just random ones ????

At least thats how I read it on google....???

Edit: from google;

With Ads based on your interests OFF:
You will still see ads and they may be based on your general location (such as city or state)
Ads will not be based on data Google has associated with your Google Account, and so may be less relevant
You will no longer be able to edit your interests
All the advertising interests associated with your Google Account will be deleted

With Ads based on your interests ON:
The ads you see will be delivered based on your prior search queries, the videos you've watched on YouTube, as well as other information associated with your account, such as your age range or gender
On some Google sites like YouTube, you will see ads related to your interests, which you can edit at any time by visiting this page
You can block some ads that you don't want to see

Question tho;

Why am I seeing google ads, even if I get on 2+2 via different browsers like IE ? Trying Firefox now.....with Firefox get the same "ad choice ad" but it appears as if its from "Quantcast" (although it looks identical to google ads)

I presume 2+2 makes a penny for each add or something (or less , and don't find them all that intrusive, as they are off to the side, and for the most part (w/google "interest based ads" set to ON, I occasionally see something worth a click) - I should also note I access 2+2 almost exclusively thru an "old school" desktop, so perhaps it's more intrusive for mobile users ???

I would also presume that 2+2 enables these ads ??? But don't know......

Yes, you still get ads, but random ones. It's really just so that the more careful/paranoid people can try to pretend that they're not being watched while using the Internet.

I don't mind personalized ads - though it's kind of annoying that whenever I browse around for something and then buy it, google puts up tons of ads for whatever I've just bought for days/weeks afterwards, which is kinda useless.

Google Adwords is just one Ad tech company that serves you behaviorally targeted Ads. Quantcast is another. There's a lot of different ones out there, including Amazon, Ghostery, Evidon etc, that do the same sort of thing. When you click that Adchoices logo you see which company is targeting you, and can change your preferences with them as you wish.

Each Ad shown to you costs the advertiser less than a penny and 2p2 only get a part of that, but over millions of page views, they add up. 2p2 then use that revenue to run the site and keep it free for us.
