cael, I think specific details about how the forum would function are more important than optimism. I would love to have a great music forum like you describe, but I am skeptical because of how most existing music threads turn out on 2+2. The ones that seem somewhat OK tend to be in The Lounge or EDF, and I think that's mostly because they are small, tight knit communities where threads stay small, on topic, and last a long time.
Whenever you invite large numbers to post great music you end up with lots of people posting lots of everything, which results in nothing being listened to. Everybody wants to be the DJ, but most people suck at DJ'ing.
The way this is handled in society at large is with filters. Those filters used to be good radio stations and record stores. Now they are good blogs and podcasts. People choose their filter to find their music. How do you have filters on a forum like 2+2 when the site primarily thrives due to the lack of filters?
I don't necessarily think this problem would be impossible to solve, but it will definitely be difficult. And I think the success of a music forum requires that solution.
Mason has a nephew who is also a musician. And he would like to host a music forum on 2+2. His primary vision: " ...help them (users) discover new music from new artists that are currently bubbling but not huge yet."
Mason and I like this idea. However, I know there have been objections in the past to a separate music forum, so I'm bringing it up here for discussion. Mason's nephew will introduce himself and answer questions and concerns.
