Tried everything suggested ITT and the last 2 days I can barely use this site due to these issues. I've completely frozen and gotten the "site unresponsive" message from Chrome several times. Is anyone actually working on correcting this, or are we supposed to just live with it?

Now I understand what you were asking about... I looked into it again and apparently the first site I searched for "how to edit hosts file" didn't provide the correct information.

I just made these additions to my hosts file and now it works:

127.0.0.1 www.zedo.com
127.0.0.1 z1.zedo.com
127.0.0.1 d3.zedo.com
127.0.0.1 zedo.com

You might not need all these entries, but I wasn't sure if just zedo.com would block z1.zedo.com so I added them all.

Also had to restart my machine before the changes took affect.

I entered my first daily fantasy sports lineup, came here to discuss it, was excited to see fantasy sport had a more prominent place on 2+2 now, and... zedo has me wanting to break things.

I just tried changing my hosts file, but the instructions I found for osx didn't work. It's protected, so you have to copy the file and resave and drag/drop, but after saving it's the wrong file type...

I don't understand why 2+2 can't find some other way to advertise, assuming that's the problem.

I don't log in often but normally visit the site several times a day. For the past month or so I have had the screen freeze and the "recover webpage" message appear.
It is not just every now and then but every time I visit. Sometimes I have to recover more than once just to make it through 1 page.
I think it is related to this zedo issue because the back button on IE shows about half a dozen "z1zedo.com/jsc/d3.html?n=82"
I have seen the fix posted above but when it comes to computers I am clueless.
I like the site but visiting now has become very frustrating.
I don't care if it is the zedo guy who was chased out earlier or 2+2 but please fix this.

Hello User

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. However upon checking this at our end using various Proxies and Geo-locations we were unable to replicate this issue.

Hence to investigate this further please provide us the output of ping and tracert command of your location when you face this issue. This data will help us to eradicate the issue if any. Below are the steps for the same:

Go to cmd prompt and type in there:

A. ping zedodomainname.zedo.com
B. Take a screen shot of the output and send it across to us.

A. tracert zedodomainname.zedo.com
B. Take a screen shot of the output and send it across to us.

Appreciate your co-operation and kind understanding on this. Awaiting your response.

I'm not convinced that either of Zedo's 2 (?) tech support accounts could pass a Turing test.

I made a local copy of the entire forum page for POG and was just fiddling with the HTML, keeping all the links to external resources the same. If I remove the image tag, it works fine

What I see is that if I try to open that URL in a browser tab it does not load in firefox. In fact, firefox doesn't even try to request it. I think that is because firefox already has a queued up request for that which it is waiting for. That's why I don't even see it in the network traffic.

Right now at least, when I request it in chrome it works fine.

Then if I close firefox and re-open it, requesting that URL will work, but firefox will complain that the image contains errors, and now that the image isn't "stuck" the pages are finishing loading normally loading on the site.

I think what happens is sometimes something goes wrong fetching that image, and it just gets stuck, and then the pages never finish loading, until at some future point the problem corrects itself when the browser eventually makes a new request that succeeds for the image.

I'm wondering if this tracking pixel is even necessary in the site? It seems to have the same values on every page, so I'm not sure what it's being used for

I also see it's being included twice on a bunch of pages, which is probalby unnecessary

in the current source of the pages someone's broken those bh.gif images so they aren't being requested anymore. Although they are broken in a weird way:

Code:
<!-- Begin ZEDO -->
<!img src="http://d7.zedo.com/img/bh.gif?n=826&g=20&a=291&s=1&l=1&t=i&e=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" >
<!-- end  ZEDO   -->
<!-- Begin ZEDO -->
<!img src="http://d7.zedo.com/img/bh.gif?n=826&g=20&a=291&s=1&l=1&t=i&e=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" >
<!-- end  ZEDO   -->
the <!img> is just an invalid tag, instead of being commented out as in <!-- <img .../> -->

It probably doesn't matter much to most browsers

Did anyone faced the slowness issue again or is currently facing it due to zedo.com domain? We would like to work with them in debugging this further and identifying the cause to fix it.

If you notice slowness from ZEDO domain then we would require the ping and tracert of that particular ZEDO domain. This will help us to investigate further. As we have already checked this at our end multiple times and were unable to replicate the issue. It could that the issue is isolated to specific geos or CDN servers which might be hard to pin-point.

@Soah, @well named - Thanks for those references from previous posts. We have already worked with the Two Plus Two forum team to comment those tags, hence bh.gif call should not be occurring anymore.

Awaiting your positive responses.

yep.

d3 seems to be the reason. This request alone took 1.46 seconds. That's damn slow for a 302 error. When I ping the server it responds reasonably fast.

I don't know if it is slow all the time, but whenever I looked at the network traffic, it looked something like this:

You see that the requests to d3.zedo.com take significantly longer than requests to z1.zedo.com. The strange thing is that when I ping d3.zedo.com it responds within less than 40 ms. Hope this helps.

Thank you for responding in this thread.

I've noticed the same with z3. z3 sometimes runs slow for me but pings fine. I guess it is out of service at the moment.
When I trace it, sometimes it looks like it is the first hop outside of my ISP (cloud?). Other times it is several hops, slow and unreachable,

Hi jh1711 / Professionalpoker,

Thanks for sharing the details. This issue seems to be because of connectivity between your machine and our server. We will check the details provided by you with our Operations Team and shall get back to you.

Could you also share the ping and tracert output of the domains (d3.zedo.com and z3.zedo.com) for which you are facing the slowness issue. This will help our team to analyze it further.

Awaiting your reply.

Thanks & Regards,
ZEDO Technical Support Team.
