Felt this was appropriate to post here imo.

Anyone use Monster guitar cables?

Quote:
Monster Cable Claims EBay, Craigslist, Costco & Sears Are 'Rogue Sites'
from the total-failure dept

When we talk about how dangerous PROTECT IP is as a censorship bill, we're often told that we shouldn't worry so much, because it's only targeted at "rogue sites" and thus wouldn't impact any legitimate sites. We're told there's nothing about rogue sites that is worth defending. And yet, as we've seen with the list of "pirate" sites that GroupM put together with help from the music and movie industries, their definition of a "pirate" site is expansive in the extreme. It included the Internet Archive, Vimeo, Soundcloud and a ton of blogs and news sites, including the famed Vibe magazine.

And don't think it gets any different when you hop over to the trademark/counterfeit side of the debate. In Tim's post about Monster Cable lobbying in favor of PROTECT IP, as an aside at the end, he notes that on Monster Cable's own list of "rogue sites," eBay and Craigslist top the list. And it doesn't stop there. Retailing giant Costco is on the list. As is Sears. Also some Backpages sites are listed as well (Backpages is a Craigslist-like classifieds system). There's also FatWallet, which is one of the most popular "deal" listings sites out there. There's also PriceGrabber and ComputerShopper -- popular legitimate sites for comparison shopping and computer purchases. These are not "rogue sites." These are legitimate companies that Monster Cable appears to have a vendetta against, because they allow for or promote the resale of perfectly legitimate secondhand goods.

In other words, for all the misleading whining from Monster about how it needs PROTECT IP to stop "rogue sites," you can see from Monster's own definition of what it considers a rogue site, that it would like to use such things to stomp out legitimate secondhand sales. Now, you can argue over whether or not these sites would pass following a judge's scrutiny under PROTECT IP, but we've seen judges rubber stamp similarly questionable claims against blogs in the past as being "rogue sites."

Yeah I read that on gearslutz (if any of you are members there I'm rongherkins - prolly the reason I dropped 20k on audio gear last year).

Monster are next level scummy. Surprised even with such good marketing, margins and branding they are able to survive with a story a week about what crooks they are.

woops, sorry, I meant to reply to this.

We play all originals imo. We'll probably do a cover here and there in the future, but all originals thus far.

Some pics from our gig at The Conservatory in OKC on the 14th

Our drummer isn't even going to play the gig on the 27th now. He's done. He hasn't put his kit back in the practice room since the gig, and I think he's probably taken out his PA. He owes me a hundred bucks on rent, and he hasn't been able to pay me for a month and a half. I talked to him earlier tonight and told him if he can't pay me, he can give me the PA. He didn't want to do that, and I imagine he went and got it. It's not a very good one, it's barely loud enough to use at practice in the small ass room, but a PA non the less. He told me he paid 450 for it. Dude's a ****ing punk.

So now we're trying to find a fill in and may have one lined up.

I'm actually wanting to record the show and try to release a live album for free if it turns out well. Might be the last time we play for a while ...

Oh! Also found out something really fun tonight!

We were first playing with another bassist, and he was really good and things were working out really really well. I had to go to Colorado for a week around Halloween for my grandfather's funeral. Apparently while I was gone they were supposed to get together and jam, and the bassist needed to pick up his equipment cause he had practice for a gig with another band the next day. The usual deal then was to schedule getting together like at 6, the bassist and I would get there around then, and the drummer would show up at like 7:30-8. So the bassist said to get together at 8. 8 comes around and passes, and he can't get a hold of the drummer. Completely standard for this drummer. Doesn't answer phone calls, texts, nothing. Finally after like 40 minutes of waiting or something like that, the bassist goes home. They live not too far from each other. So the bassist gets home and then the drummer hits him up and says he fell asleep, but can be at the practice room in 30 minutes. Bassist says he's already home, and tells him to get his **** from the room and take it to his house, and he'd pick it up from his house after work. So the next day he has trouble again getting a hold of the ****er, and that was the last straw for him. So this ****ing piece of **** drummer costs me a damn good bassist who was working out really well, and someone I really like. We're still good friends, and he actually helped me line up this fill in drummer. **** that drummer though. ****ing bull****.

Oh, and now he may be costing me another bassist if the fill in doesn't pan out. We were supposed to practice tonight and after I told him the drummer wouldn't make it, he said if he's not going he doesn't want to go either, and then started talking about not wanting to do the gig if there's not gonna be a drummer. I'll ****ing play it by myself if I have to. I'm not gonna ****ing cancel it and never be asked to come back again.

In short, don't put up with **** from band members, cause it's just not worth it. I was such a ****ing fool with all my ridiculous ****ing "oh he's a really good drummer so I'll just put up with it" crap.

Nice work! Ravel, right? I was just working up his "a la maniere de borodine." I would probably post it.... if we had a musician's forum

Just wanted to say I really enjoyed the youtube clips you guyz posted and looking forward to seeing more of that in the new forum. Also (might be a brag) I used to love playing Ravel's Miroirs back before poker stole music from me

hey does anyone know what kind of Washburn this is?

the only thing it says regarding model is presumably the L II on the truss rod cover. It's made in Korea, and the pickups are Washburn W 621 (N) and W 623 (B).

I'm trying to find out the value of it imo.

While we're talking Ravel, this is probably my favourite piece OAT.

Also got a hard shell fender case for it (came with a gig bag [wtf???]) and a hard shell G&G case for my Jaguar.

From the look of it probably under $200, they seemed to be going for about that years ago and the used market is just so much worse now. Lower end model, Korean made + ugly as sin (imo).

Where'd you come across it? The only time I've seen one in person it was someone's kids' guitar they wanted set up. It was heavy and nothing to write home about finish-wise but played & sounded reasonably okay. Kind of a weird neck joint and the electronics were predictably terrible.

these texas special single coils are awesome imo. This thing quacks like a duck, chimes like a bell, and crunches like ... something that crunches imo

Part of my settlement imo. Got some money, that guitar and a little Vox DA20. The guitar plays really well actually. Pickups are horrible though obv. I might be able to get a hundred out of it imo.

Did you swap out the pickups in that or are those the stock single coils iyo? Hard to tell from the pic.

They're pretty ****ing great imo. I always thought single coils sucked, but man these are awesome. The hum can kinda suck, but ****, humbuckers can't match that tone and you can get hum cancelling in two positions so it's all good imo.
