Maybe the only people who seem to be bothered by it are those who have posted to that effect, but perhaps it should occur to you that many people dislike it but think it not worth commenting, particularly because you've been pretty clear about what they think.

I'd be willing to bet quite a lot that if the membership at large were polled, > 66% would say they consider it annoying.

(fwiw, while I dislike all signatures, for me it's the emoticon that is most egregious — to me, that particular emoticon says "I'm eight years old, and you just read my post anyway — hah hah!")

Your username and an avatar of your choice are already displayed.

We don't need anything more to identify people. Whether it be a line of text, your name, or an image someone bedazzled in photoshop.

Well, as Lee already pointed out, a lot of people were used to signing things, since back in the olden days, you signed all your letters.

Honestly, though, I don't understand why seeing something simple like

-NMHU

bothers people.

Getting riled up over something so tiny (and also so pervasive on the internet) seems like a sure way of going through the day in a bad mood.

signatures are tilting and i have ranted about them in the past

currently there is a wanker named bernie posting a lot in the politics forum who signs 100% of his posts "-b"

one sentence, one word, everything "-b" at the bottom.

what is wrong with you people? should be a snap ban for anyone doing it on posts that are not lengthy diatribes or 'official' type statements or letters.

Right, it seems so pointless to me to sign a post with a made-up screen name. Even more pointless is to sign a post with an abbreviation of said made-up screen name. If you know what it stands for, you already knew who made the post. And if you don't know what it stands for, now you have to look for the screen name to figure it out.
