Forum suggestion not sure where to post this...

I think a very useful button for all forums would be one that instantly separates all paragraphs from a previous post into separate quotes. Is there something that does that? So if I want to respond to different parts of someones post separately the button will auto set up my reply with quotes around each paragraph.

Is this the place to suggest that?

This would be the place to suggest it.

Don't like the idea, and I don't know if it's even possible or not (I'm not a software person), but you came to the right place to pitch your idea.

Perfect thx, how could you not like it? ;p Maybe you're the programmer!

I keep having to copy the text 20 times and deleting everything but the first paragraph in the first copy, everything but the 2nd paragraph in the 2nd copy and so forth. I see many others do it. I'm sure some are too lazy and don't give as good of response that they could.

Surely it can be done. Instead of quoting the whole thing it searches for the paragraph indicator, and quotes that? pfff I know nothing about it haha, but I think all forums should have it.

Dont think it can be done. Macro Program FTW. Have it insert the [QUOTE][/QUOTE] tags for you. I use one that I've had for 20 yrs called Macro Express. Paid for it once and had lifetime free upgrades, so far. macros.com

I use it alot on the forum to bang out various tags or any other repetitive task.

Why would you do this? Just type the [QUOTE][/QUOTE] tags around each paragraph.

Or just highlight each paragraph and use the quote tag.

But yeah this suggestion just seems silly to me.

I see. I'm thinking it will change the way forums are used and work, evolve them slightly higher. How is it can I insert a picture or add bold tags with a click or all that stuff but not make a multi quoting function (not multi quote). I have a vague understanding of programming but nothing web based. Are forums based on something too basic?

another way would be to go into 'quote' mode where every piece you highlight gets quote tags. Surely we could create this for other programs, I guess you are suggesting you can't integrate that into the forum languages or something. I just want to be clear I realize i have no idea what I'm talking about.

I'm also going to maybe experiment with something I call a Fabric. Kinda like merging threads but a little different. Thread will be connected purposefully with links and cliff notes about the links so pieces to bigger points can be connected seamlessly and people can pick up the bigger conversation without have to go through all past thread, yet the sources conversations will still be there for easier access. I know this happens half haphazardly but has it been done formerly with a name?

I think foruming can improve quite a bit and its interesting to me.

Also while I have people who know about forum things on the line, Is there no arbitration section? I read in a book quite some time ago that cell phone apps are the way of the future, and it was so long ago I couldn't even understand what it meant. the book also talked about how online arbitration will be the future. I think two plus two, would be the perfect place to start this?

I think typing that is more work than hitting crtlA crtlC, CrtlV ctrlV crtrlV etc. and then highlighting and deleting each body. The problem is I have to move the the front of the paragraph, type, then move to the back and type. Seems like one button push could multi quote each paragraph.

Re: Forum suggestion not sure where to post this...

It is certainly possible to program into a forum.

I just copy the first quote-tag and paste it where I want it (so that the name of the poster I'm quoting and a link back to the post appears on each paragraph, not just the first), along with the appropriate end-quote-tag. It's really very minimal work when I'm not on my phone trying to do it.

No, your method sounds like more work. That's why you're complaining about it, right?

In that top row of things to do in a reply, like bold, italics, underline, then go further to the right and you'll see insert link, insert image, then this:

In olden times, people often used bold to distinguish their responses from the content of the original post they are quoting

or you can use different colours
how is it they can't centre the "Please review our terms and conditions prior to posting" message below the Post Quick Reply Go Advanced buttons?

They are based on the basic need for human interaction

you mean where people post about their disputes on 2p2 and submit to binding arbitration based on the opinion of anonymous 2p2ers?

I read in a book quite some time ago that cell phone apps are the way of the future, and it was so long ago I couldn't even understand what it meant.

Cell phone apps are programs you install on your cell phone

the book also talked about how online arbitration will be the future.

Do you mean something like this

I think two plus two, would be the perfect place to start this?

Do you want these people making binding arbitration rulings for you

This is some of the strangest stuff I've ever seen on 2+2. You and pfapfap should have a 2+2 Idea Man Conference where you take lots of drugs recreationally and then think up more stuff like this.

(See posts 628-29 of this thread for the idea man reference: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/55...anned-1123891/.)
