Question Forum restrictions for new members

I am a new member and have found I can create new threads in some forums but not in others. For example, I cannot create a new thread in the Marketplace forum. Are there restrictions for new members. I searched for this type of information but did not find any.

Thanks.

Each forum has a stickied post in the front/top that explains the rules for that forum. In the marketplace, it explains what you need to do to be able to post there. Just read the stickies before posting.

/thread

And there's no possible way you did any real searching, OP. If you could figure out how to start a thread in this forum, you could have answered your own question with little effort.

And the MP mods don't make exceptions to the six month rule, to forestall your next question.

Thanks for the information.

Not finding information does not prove one did not search.

I read all the general rules and did some keyword searching on new members and marketplace threads.

Yes, in hindsight, the rules I was looking for were right there. But that is hindsight. Poker players and hindsight are a funny thing. I should have folded, I should have raised, I should of called. I called but I knew you had the nuts, etc. etc. etc. etc.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

In defense of OP, many of the sticky attention grabbing techniques are self-defeating. They tend to look spammy, and people have become accustomed to ignoring things that look spammy on the web. They are also not bolded if they haven't been updated recently, which makes them even easier to overlook.

Ah the old, "It is your fault I wasn't able to spend more than 1 minute looking at thread titles to figure out in a new forum that I might want to read how things work before posting my earth shattering thread." Does that defense work well when stopped for speeding?

How many times do new users need to completely overlook the stickies before it dawns on people that there might be something about them that leads to their being overlooked? 2+2, like most forums, has a horrible, non-intuitive UI for new users. It's problem. Solve it and these threads won't happen 3 times a week.

Re: Forum restrictions for new members

Be happy to hear any suggestions.

It happens a few times a week, but how many hundreds or even thousands of times did it not happen? I believe that the system is working for the vast majority, and no matter what you do, there will always be a few who miss something, for a variety of reasons.

The very simplest solution here would be that when an ineligible poster tried starting a Marketplace thread, they'd get a message telling them what to do rather than the generic one, but I don't know that this is possible, unfortunately.
