This morning we made a significant change to the backend of the forums. If you see odd behavior (that didn't exist before) please add a comment to this thread.

We are already aware that the logos the top of the page are not displaying correctly.

the site seems to be loading slowly today

or is that a me problem?

The site is slightly slower for me, maybe a 1.5 second delay.

Probably caching related to the new changes.

I have two unread PMs from months if not years ago. My "new PM" indicator is now flashing constantly, perhaps because of them, whereas it wasn't before - which suited me. (I have my reasons to prefer to leave them unread.)

*

Edit: I may be wrong about this. It does say "Private Messages: Unread 2" and I may have unconsciously become used to that indicator for myself, instead. I am at least half unconscious most of the time, which suits me.

It seems like URL's are not being rendered as regular URL's, but are instead embedded in a redirect.

That's a confusing explanation, so here's an example. In this post, goofy's link goes to this URL:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/redirect-to/?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2016%2F07 %2F08%2Fworld%2Feurope%2Fdenmark-citizenship-test.html

which, when you click on it, eventually resolves to just:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/08/world/europe/denmark-citizenship-test.html

2+2 has previously always just shown the latter form (the "nytimes.com") version, which I greatly prefer to the new version (the "http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/redirect-to/?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com") version. The older way was MUCH more human-friendly.

Is that something that's easy to change back?

It appears I'm no longer getting emails when I receive a PM (setting in my options is still to receive them), and as I posted in the mod forum, I can't access the ACP.

Edit to add: And yeah, things are slow. Real slow. And this has to be just about the quietest time of the week on our forums.

The 'Go to first new post' link anchors to continue to be a hot mess on Firefox. Doesn't seem to matter if the thread has embedded tweets or not.

I don't know if Chuck fixed everything or rolled it back, but all these issues are now solved for me.

Thank you! This is much better.

I think you're all right, Chuck, no matter what Mike Haven alleges. I'm sure the little girl was lying.

Was that just me or was it redirecting to http://vb38.twoplustwo.com/ for everyone?

I was seeing the same thing. When I could get into a thread it topped out with posts from 2013. Seems better now.

I am trying to solve the slow loading issue. Please bear with me.

The redirect to the vb38 site should not occur again. If it does please post here or PM me (on this site not the vb38 site!).

I am also trying to solve the emailed subscription notices problem. That should be fixed soon.

FYI, we moved to new, more powerful (supposedly) servers and there appear to be teething problems.

Site not working on IE for me - can only see stickys, no other threads appear and cant get logged in. Works fine on Chrome.

More weird behaviour on IE, there is a box with an exclamation mark at the bottom which has "please login to use chat" written on it when you hover the mouse pointer on it.

Have you guys ever discussed an easier way to embed youtube/twitter to the site? It's 2016 man. 2p2 seems to be behind the times with regard to embedding.
