Here's the post you are arguing about.

As for this forum banning a lot of posters, you're not the first person to suggest that, but I think there's a pretty wide gap between perception and reality there.

We have somewhere around 423,000 members. ~48,500 are banned, and the vast majority of those are spammers, scammers, or trolls with multiple accounts.

Usually when posters are high profile enough to be considered "some of the best posters", it's no secret why they were banned.

All that said, what changes would you suggest? I highly doubt there's any simple way to make it so that you could check why any given poster is banned.
Go to the sorurce, SMP style. To me it looks like Bobo wrote "members". Or am I missing something vital?

No, Land O Lakes is, even though I already told him I said nothing about "active".

Edit to add: Just noticed he was keying in on the "posters" part of "active posters"; I guess that's where the confusion was.

Here the "430K" isn't literally meant, imo. It's used for exaggerating. It came long after Bobo's post, and his post wasn't quoted. Mathematically there could be a max of 423,000-48,500 active posters, ~375K posters if I interpret the numbers right.

Actually it's a bit difficult to say what he means, except for that he's criticizing mods generally.

I can't believe we're still discussing this, but what do you think his point was? He says "430 K active users on this site a call bs to that" - there needs to be a statement to "call bs to", and I'm the only one to have given any numbers. And the total number of users I gave is almost the same as the one he uses - who else do you think he is responding to? When someone says they "call bs", that generally means they don't believe someone else's statement, unless you think he was making up a number "for exaggerating", and then called bs on himself.

Re: Finding out why posters have been Banned?

A response to POCKETPOOL could be: "We have a total of about 375K non-banned members, of which we don't know how many are active posters at this point"

And, as optionals, for lightening the response up:
  1. "First we have to define what we mean with an active poster, then I will put our computer guys on it, if they have the time"
  2. "We know mets has posted the most, though , and some others are very active too, heading for their own 100k. plaaynde has a measly 10k+, but you know, it's not just about quantity..."

Lol, I thought you said active in addition to him, but you just said members and he tossed in the active part and I misconstrued your first response to him. Apologies, Bobo.

Bobo's wording was fine the first time; it just didn't mix well with the craft beers this active user/poster/member had yesterday, lol.

I like your humbleness. Would like to see more of that among other members. Not always searching faults in other people, rather be a bit introspective, but keeping the flag up anyway.

i remember mason once mentioning that there were tens of thousands of unique monthly visitors from nevada alone, and i couldn't believe it. because that must mean the lurker : poster ratio is over 100:1

There was a problem, and it's solved now. Take it easy, man.

Every time a mutual misunderstanding is solved, it's a step forward.

This was a very minor problem though, but we need to pass time. Good training.

Not sure where or by whom, but that's the reason.

The post that led to his banning has probably been deleted so I'm not sure what he actually said.

That's all any of us other than the banning mod know. Given that most of Spike's recent posts appear to be in 4L and Politics, I bet you can figure out who that mod is.

I think 430k is just the best day they would get for any given year.

I understand. We like to round it right over here

Let's continue the nitpicking!

430 is an exaggerated 420
