This is a very good point that I've long espoused. People often like to slap a troll label on someone who employs playful irony, just because they don't happen to like or agree with that person.

That was playful irony. I know kioshk will know that, but don't know who or what all moderates here at the end of the universe.

You haven't really posted on 2+2 until you've been LOLpermabanned by Rapini

Sorry, partly missed this, posted on MY FORUM

bbv4life/why-spike-banned-1528999/

I'm all for that racists get banned. But if they make the cut, and regret, they should be allowed back. Don't really know the optimal strategy though, have mercy on the mods and admins. As a whole, I'm respecting the efforts this site is making.

If someone has 5k+ posts and makes one (or two) offensive posts (or threads)... a lifetime ban is just absurd.

I think the lifetime bans are partly conditional. But they need some activity. I was even perma-banned for a day, didn't know the reason ("Why not?" ), and was reinstated, no question asked. But that's the joke category, I have to live with that role, can blame myself. But I think some people reacted, making sure the ban wasn't forgotten on, and I'm thankful for that.

Maybe more use of temp-bans could be the solution? Already a few days off will teach people. A couple of weeks will definitively. Maybe the general rule among mods should be that all the other methods should primarily be used before the perma ban hammer? Using more infraction points systems are also a possibility to grade the consequences. Maybe perma-suggestions should go to the mod forum for evaluation before executed?

The spam cases etc are a different story. But I'm talking about often long time posters.

Longtime posters should get the benefit of vote/discussion from the community.

No one seems to know for sure why Spike was banned. But he was a friend of mine, and I am sad.

All in all, the perma-ban policy may be a bit too brutal and should be re-evaluated. mets' (the biggest poster of them all) perma was symbolizing the situation. It was lifted, but the process feels too uncomfortable and arbitrary.

For not overloading the system, maybe every account with over 1000 posts should be evaluated a bit better before perma. They have at least survived that long without having to be banned before, so the percentage of ban-worthy posts is probably low. The net positive and fairness of a softer approach can then be obvious.

These forums are lucky that there are temp bans with warnings given beforehand. Some places I know do give you warnings but when they ban, the ban is final.

First off I'm sure he's not the biggest, and second, sometimes a man has a mans appetite.

That took 2 months to go through! You need to upgrade from that 1200 baud modem.

No, I never said a word about active posters. He called BS on 430,000 active posters - he read something in my post that wasn't there, as it sounds like you did.

Pardon me.

Active user to you means any user who has not been banned; active user to him is someone who actively uses the forum on a regular basis is my guess.

May I ask why Spike was banned? One mod said that it was because he said something racist. Spike has posted a ton and I have never seen anything that would suggest that he is a racist or trouble maker. So it really makes me wonder what he could have done to earn a perma?

You said 430K active users. He said BS on 430K active users. I mistakenly said active posters when I meant to say users, and you said that's not what you said. So, there are 430K users logging into 2+2 on nearly a daily basis? If so, kudos, Mason...
