Finding out why posters have been Banned? - Page 8 - About the Forums

So posters like you can also simply ignore posters like me who defend themselves from your kind of personally targeted harassment?

So, why isn't that good enough for you?

And are you saying all kinds of harassment should be allowed? Is that really an ideal way to proceed for any forum, even one with limited moderation that also allows insults?

Who wants really ugly and personal harassment associated with their web-company?

Anyway this is getting off topic from what behavior deserves a ban.

Why would defending yourself against harassment warrant a ban? I have defended myself and now I am getting threatened with banning because of it.
How does the logic and morality of that work?

I have no interest in letting racist tripe exist. It had no redeeming quality. I lazily neglected to add an infraction to go with the ban to document the ban at the time, but that has been fixed.

i have a proposal. if somebody is very controversial and gets banned, they should have that ban lifted if they are wiling to post all of their real life info: full name number and address.

until we have a taker, the proposal is meaningless, but i'd approve the procedure.

Because when someone on rgp said he wished he knew where Gary Carson lived so he can beat the living **** out of him, due to a difference of opinion on a controversial topic in the newsgroup, and then explained in detail how he would do it, Gary responded by posting his legit home address and told him to make the trip.

Gary was kind of a crazy ****. There's lots of crazy ****s. Two crazy ****s and one rule of posting your home address to gain access to your banned account = potential liability, no?

It seems to me that going from infractions all the way to permban might not be the solution for high volume posters (not to about low post trolls, spammers etc) But maybe a middle solution, I think instead letting them know they are on real thin ice with a month ban. not sure what real life info is meant to do other then make someone paranoid, Someone that likes posting in the forums will get the picture after a week to a month off, if not then they nor anyone will be surprised if the get the ax.

btw I get that's what infractions are meant to do but I think many people that receives them don't really feel it, kinda like parking tickets.

Yeah, I'm not sure giving a possible psycho your home address when your address is hard to locate due to a common name is the best response, but I respect it.

Your name is the same name as your user name. A guy by the name of SpankPuss420, putting his real identity on the net due to your rule of a banned contentious poster must post his name, address and phone number to regain access of his account easily opens you up to liability if another user decides to do something crazy. I'm not sure how that defies your perception of common sense other than common people wouldn't ever take such measures.

Please ask the attorney you retain; I'm interested in what his response would be to such a proposal from a legal standpoint.

I'm talking about civil lawsuits.

If I'm a "contentious poster" (i.e., someone many people don't like), and you ask that I post my real life info for all to see to regain access to my account and someone comes and ****s me up or kills me and that person is someone that I had heated discourse with in the forums, do you think the family doesn't have a case against 2+2? McDonald's got sued for 3 million for coffee being too hot when the customer spilled it on herself in their own car from the passenger seat. Rare, sure, but costly when rare occurs.

Spike's volume was intolerable. He was like the Alan Kessler of 4L on meth, and all of his threads were incomprehensible garbage. Literally incomprehensible. If he'd ever been racist there nobody ever could have known as every thread he made was indecipherable.

After a while I stopped bothering to even open 4L because his garbage threads always infested the place. And I mean these threads are garbage for 4L. Check them out for yourself as Tuma's been kind enough to be constantly bumping these threads ever since Spike's been banned.
