I click the picture icon that is included in the forum editor. This brings up a prompt to input the url of an image and then I paste the url and click ok. Where am I going wrong?

It's the URL that you put in that's a problem. You need to rehost the image on a site like imgur for example.

Save the memes for forums other than B&M.

so here's the thing: when you link to an image you found on the web, and "hotlink" it by imputting that image location into our [img] tags, you use that website's bandwidth when i load the thread you posted it in, on our site. and that website probably doesn't care very much for that action, because they're not getting any hits or clicks or whathaveyou, and they're paying for hosting it and paying to send it to your computer around the world probably.

MEANWHILE: sites like flickr and photobucket and imgur and probably more, will host images for free, they actually like it. they're giving away their bandwidth.

what you're supposed to do is save the image you found somewhere on the internet onto your computer, then go to the image hosting website (flickr/etc), upload that image, then copy the image location from THERE, and put THAT url in the [img] tags.

this way the website you originally found it from won't, in the future, change that image to something else (who knows what, it's up to them, it's their website) without warning, to something that could potentially be malicious and **** up a thread on this website, that an unsuspecting user could download. this has happened. and "rehosting" images, in the way i just described, avoids this issue, and is the preferred way to post images on our wonderful website twoplustwoforums.

Is there any way to make that clearer to users when they click the button in your forum software? I can't see how anyone could reasonably expect a new user to just know they're supposed to do that based on the way your software functions.

Granted, I'm not a brand new member, but this I was unaware of this (although I've used tinypic.com to upload and display images of my own many times on this site, but if I googled an image I just always used the built-in software of this forum to display those images)

Copy the url
Go to tinypic.com
Select url option
Paste url in the url field
Click upload
Copy the new link to the image it provides
Paste that into the img tags of 2+2
Then type a bunch of nonsense below or above the image that no one wants to read

Now it's all about pics you've posted.

MV try not to work so hard at defending yourself. Most of the folks here have their minds made up already and your point-by-point responses will not change a thing.

Second, I've referred to you as a "piece of work" and it appears that at worst you're a dick and at best you're nothing more than an excited and passionate poster who annoys people with your "enthusiastic" posts.

Nevertheless, your "violations" could have easily been handled in a much more professional, compassionate and customer service-like manner. However, the Mod is Rapini and he is incapable of acting appropriately. Despite the most recent controversy (one where Mat Sklansky got involved) nothing has ever changed Rapini's way of thinking or how he acts as a Moderator.

In fact, at one point he posted a "stop making ******ed posts/threads" about you. THIS less than month or so after many complained about his inappropriate conduct. He just doesn't get it. As someone with a family member living with Down Syndrome I cringe when I see ignorant people like Rapini toss around the word ****** without regard for the feelings of others. It's hurtful and he doesn't give a ****.

2+2 keeps dancing around the issue and never fixes the problem. So in the past few years they've created a new sub-forum (M&B); changed the name of B&M; had Mat take a more active role in monitoring Mod conduct; and now have just named a new Mod to join the two others in deciding how enforcement is done.

All of these things were done to address one problem and one problem only: Rapini.

It's like trying to apply band-aids to a gaping head wound and wondering why the bleeding won't stop.

I believe it is time for Rapini to step away from Modding. He'll never agree to that so Mat should take his Mod Badge and retire it to the 2+2 Hall of Fame for us to look at and take pictures with. Thanks for the memories Rapini, you will be missed.

Swing away if you must, but I've been consistent with my message.

Pot, meet kettle. You want change, but you yourself haven't changed, not with this account or your prior one.

Zappa your shtick is really getting old. Going back to your exchange with Bobo earlier in the thread, your opinion doesn't bother anyone, it's your regurgitating that same opinion every chance you get over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Anyway a resolution has been reached, Max is being PMed shortly.

it was clear to me from the start that the guy was ignorant and not willfully breaking rules to cause chaos. a simple warning or infraction with a link to the thread he posted a few posts ago would have fixed the problem, but, from his perspective, banning/exiling is just as fine a solution to the problem. which is ****ed up because who is he to decide what contributions MaxValue could provide in the future if given the proper direction?

i don't think it's cool to just run off customers when they don't know better, and i don't even have a financial stake in this website. how come the real owners and employees aren't protecting these customers?

In a vacuum, it could seem like this happened to him simply because he hotlinked 2 pics. But that's not he case.

1. He hotlinked a pic after specifically being told to stop posting pictures (if a mod tells you not to do something, turning around and doing it again is always a big no no).
2. He's broken almost every rule in B&M over the past few months.
3. He has a history of incidents with other mods/forums on this account and his prior ones.

We take the history/body of work into account. A new user? Sure, explaining how to properly host images would make sense to do. Max? It seemed he didn't give a **** and it would've been a waste of time. Could we have taken the time to ask him? Yes, I suppose we could have. But it's easy to lose patience with a poster who is continually causing problems.

Anyway, the short version of the resolution is that his exile is lifted.

Here we go, attack me and pivot the discussion away from the real problem: Mod's who continue to step on their own dicks in the name of policing their sacred message board/forum.

Your shtick (and Rapini's) is what's old, my friend. You can try to villify me, embarrass me, or discount the points I make but the fact of the matter remains, Mods like Rapini (and you) are in need of training. You come off as mean spirited bullies with huge chips on your shoulders. And it's been that way for years now.

Why so angry, bro? Why can't you boys just get your **** together? Every other week someone's complaining about you and it's not me. Again, not me but someone else. Practically. Every. Week.

And hey, how about you actually read what I write and ponder it a bit before you dismiss my points and find ways to attack and demean me? You take the cheap easy way out every time, don't you? Respond to what I say not stoop to cheap shots like you seem to enjoy doing and do so well.

I've been nothing but respectful when I've tried to make valid points. I am truly sorry that you are upset with me but I do not believe I'm violating 2+2 TOS in anything I've posted here or elsewhere.

Yes, I'm sure you're both great guys irl, but as Mods not so much.

And yes, Mat approved but the way it was handled up to that point was classic Rapini. He's made no changes and there's no hope that he will. He's simply the worst.

I'm sorry you're unhappy with my opinion. I say we should aways be kind to others and the most kind thing we can do for Rapini is to thank him for his years of service and retire his Mod badge.

Again, sorry my opinion angered you so.
Not sure why you think I'm angry over some posts on the Internet. I'm just really, really tired of you trying to make every B&M-related thread about your "Rapini must be removed" fixation, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. One guy, and only one guy, can remove Rapini as a mod. Send Mat a PM, and keep it out of this thread.

I don't read a single word in that post attacking you, and this thread isn't about what you think is the real problem. This thread is about OP's exile, and whether it should be lifted. That's it.
05-10-2015 , 07:14 PM
Got it. I understand. Don't agree with you but I understand.

I realize you're tired of my opinion. Others believe what I believe too, but I have the courage to keep pressing the point until something is actually done to fix the problem.

I won't apologize for that. But I will refrain from posting my position in this thread out of respect to you.
05-10-2015 , 07:40 PM
Thank you for lifting the exile, and for browsers pm to me, I will take his words to heart and try to improve on my own failings moving forward.

I am still unable to view the B&M forum, I assume we're just waiting on Mat to change the setting on my account?

Yes, that's correct. He was PM'd the same time you were. I'm sure he'll get to it as soon as he is available.

randomly banned is clearly a miserable person. i forbid you to respond to anything he posts ever again. if randomly banned would like to have a conversation with me in person or on the phone , i will happily do so. until then i think of him as a flea or a fruit fly.

Has my ban been removed yet? I'm still getting the same screen telling me I can't access. Do I need to clear browser cache or anything like that?

Whoops, since you've been out of the loop for a bit, to access the B&M forum now requires Midori running on a Linux system.

Yeah it's so hurtful for you. I'm sorry, but you are really pissing me off with these 'hurt feelings'.

You are such a wonderful guy that in the 'So I am pretty sure I might marry a high class escort'-thread you have been a kind soul. There is a thread with a clearly mentally unstable person and you are attacking him and his appearances out of the blue. Calling him "Fatt Damon", "Does the mole ride in coach class?". "Don't get any mole on you."etc. Yeah, I can see how someone using the word '******' hurts such a thoughtful, and considerate guy as you.

It's clear you are a wonderful person. Wonderful indeed.
