"Ban me! Ban me!"

I've noticed that we are receiving more and more requests to be voluntarily temp-banned for a day or a week or more, while the person goes out to the shops or prepares a dissertation or goes on vacation, so I thought it might be time to have a dedicated thread in this regard.

Kindly give the reason you want to be temp-banned, and for how long, in whole-day units, below.

The first mod who reads your request will take the appropriate action.

Thank you.

MH

Edit/MH: If you care to give regular readers a Trip Report after your self-requested ban, it would be much appreciated.

*

Edit/MH: Owing to the popularity of this thread, there are only a few bans left: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, or 14 days. Requests for any other number of days may not be able to be granted, or may be changed to 14 days, without notice.

Re: "Ban me! Ban me!"

If it's not too much trouble, I'd like to be banned for the next 10 minutes so I can check my email and facebook without clicking back to 2p2 because it is very distracting and I can't control myself. Thank you.

"Please do not give frivolous reasons, or you will be permabanned for time-wasting."

I should have mentioned that bans have to be effected in whole-day units. I'll add it to the OP now.

Re: "Ban me! Ban me!"

I'm trying to take a week off from poker because my brain is fried. Plus I have insomnia that is aggravated by 2p2 reading when I get back from Casino Arizona in the early AM. One week please.

Edit/MH: Done.

Re: "Ban me! Ban me!"

Would it be possible to make the user title something like "self-requested ban" instead of "banned"? It's difficult to tell who's been banned for causing trouble and who hasn't.

Reason: When making trades with people, this can be important information.

I don't want to become too technical in this post, but the answer is "no - for software reasons."

If you mean you may be trading with someone whose undertitle is "Banned" and he is telling you it's a self-requested ban, apart from the 99 to 1 odds he is trying to scam you, you can always ask any online mod to tell you the reason the person was banned.

The admins could set up a usergroup that displays "Self-Excluded" in the custom title field instead of "Banned", and have it be a copy of the banned group in every other aspect. As long as it's flagged as a Banned group in vBulletin Options, super mods (and regular mods, since you guys have that set up too) will be able to tempban into it.

Come to think of it, they could also use that to set up a group that displays Suspended for tempbanned, non-self-excluded users as well. Full disclosure FTW?

Yeah.

Well.

Obviously.

I said I didn't want to become too technical, didn't I?

I would like to be banned for 7 days, ending on May 24 while I contemplate some major decisions in my life.

This is going to drop your posts/day for the year!

Done. Good luck with those decisions!

Edit to add: Over/under on number of threads started today because of this:

Mayo
banned

Also - over/under on minutes until a Mayo gimmick posts again?

Last edited by Bobo Fett; 05-17-2008 at 05:14 AM. Reason: No, I'm not banning all your gimmicks too...I need to go to bed some time tonight.

You did. I just wanted to provide a bit of advice to the admins. vBulletin is very different from the old ubb software, and I wasn't sure if they'd thought of that possibility yet. The Suspended group idea works wonderfully on a couple of other forums that I mod, and I thought it'd do some good here too.

Also the Suspended and Self-Excluded undertitles would completely get rid of drama threads like "Why was xxxxx banned?". That has to be worth something to you guys.
