All my buddies just assume I'm a degen
Ugh, this is going to sound so stupid but....

degen = degenerate??!? I always just thought it was 2p2er Degen's last name or something. I can't believe I actually just looked up degen at dictionary.com, then sat there confused for a minute before I figured it all out. woo!

Also I have this same problem, for some reason I only talk about my losses if at all so I keep getting questions like "so you think you're up overall?". ugh.
I thought degen rhymed with vegan.

Re: Why I don\'t tell people I play poker.

My most frequent one so far is "So will I be seeing you on TV?" I just politely state that I only play online, so probably not.

If you guys think poker's tough, try telling people you're a competitive Scrabble player. Tournament Scrabble is about 50 times as different from living room Scrabble as serious poker is from a penny ante home game.
"Oh, I could never be good at Scrabble--I'm such a bad speller."
"That's okay. Many of the top players are Thais who don't even speak English."
"WTF?!"

I'm always afraid to meet someone who'll be like "My dad lost his life savings playing online poker."

"Uh...my bad?"
"There's this great book called Small Stakes Holdem--I'll lend him my copy."

Re: Why I don\'t tell people I play poker.

My mom doesn't know that I've played online, but she does know I have a keen interest in poker. So, she's always telling me this story about a kid that lost hundreds of thousands of dollars playing online poker, thinking that he was winning, and ended up robbing a bank to pay off his debts. I think the moral of the story is that you guys should all feel bad for ruining this kid's life.

That's just part of becoming a poker superstar, my man.

We love you Nath.

Sorry if that's weird. If there are other Nath fans out there who want to get together to do blow and talk about Nath, PM me.

to mother, after she kept asking:

me: "i dunno, i think i won $450 today or something."

her: "but how much did you lose??"

This is the absolute worst. A couple of months ago I won my first "big" tournament, for over $2100 dollars. It was a big deal to me, not just the money but also the win. I told my brothers a week later, and one of em asked me "and how much did you lose?" they couldn't stop grinning.

Re: Why I don\'t tell people I play poker.

I had to listen to a coworker the other day tell me about how he "moved up" from the $1 Sit & Go's to the $5 Sit & Go's and is winning because "they respect his raises more" and don't just "chase to the river" ><
