Maybe I'm just really fortunate to have good, intelligent friends, but almost everybody I tell about my poker playing can understand how I am profitable with only 3-10 minutes of explanation (obviously some people have a better understanding of poker, whereas other people really need to have things like edges, variance, and "long-term profitability" explained). Granted, I pretty much only tell people I care about (people I'm going to see and hang out with on a regular basis), but I've never had anybody combat me on the fact that I can make a living it at (and I'm not baller either, with my $30-40 hourly ) The worst reaction I get is probably the upbeat, optimistic skepticism. "Hey, if it's working for you, I'm happy for you!" sort of thing.
