Even really smart, rational people seems to be impacted from this and it just does not make sense. In the case of a late score, this is due to a dynamic factor. Things change all the time in the case of a sports match, when you deal out five cards they do not.
Actually its more rational to be upset at it being the river.
Before the flop, say AK vs JJ, its 47-53. So you understand you have a 50-50 to lose. When they whiff the flop, it becomes a much lower percent. Again when the turn is whiffed it is a lower percent. Now they only have a 12 percent chance to hit.
Id be more upset at a 12 percent than the 33 percent chance it comes out on the flop.
