Go for it man. You shouldn't do this for the money in the first place. I realize you wanted the bet as a motivation factor, but in reality your goal should be the real motivation. Start on monday or even better today, come back to this thread and keep us posted on your progress as often as you feel like. BBV can be a hard place to post things like this, but I promised you that most people will acknowledge your efforts and encourage you in your fight. I am for one rooting for you, and hope you will succeed.

Any words of encouragement are appreciated. Thank you for that. I will post daily updates, succeed or fail. I'll even do the fatty weigh-in video. Ugh.

Appreciate the offer but the only person I wanted to battle was myself. It appears there won't be any bets, which I'm okay with.

Go for it, man. I see from your OP that you are 34 years old. Interesting that is the age when I first took up the weight loss challenge. Lost 50 long term by great modification to activity level, mostly race walking.

A key issue is potential overuse injuries if you start long hours of exercise. In particular knees, achilles, plantar fascia, back, arches ... whatever else. Particularly with the weight you have bearing down on those joints, so it needs to be considered and planned for. This is the exact reason I recommended water walking. Burns calories great w/out punishing joints at all.

Hey man, it's like anything else. Doing it not only with motivation but doing is smart is critical. Seeing the long term and not overdoing early on, especially at that weight and apparent inactivity level over the years ... is huge. You can't throw caution to the wind in my experience after you get out of your 20s. Just something to let sink in. Nothing sucks like injuries when you have the motivation rocking and rolling but just can't do it because you've overdone it and got injured.

End of preaching. All the bullcrap gimmick diets that are out there, just lower the calories and raise the activity level, increasingly, and it projects to a different metabolism and weight. It also helps to write down everything you eat, and know the exact calories. I shot for 1700 a day of low fat food, while weighing about 260 and exercising aerobically racewalking an hour a day. 1700 calories can't come close to maintaining that body weight with that level of activity. Eat a lot of salads, bod doesn't make fat of it, it seems. No dressing, use raisins as topping, sweet but not high calorie, lots of fiber.

Get a formula on the calories in and out. Work it. Track it. Maybe some input from nutritionist. Pick the foods you love that are low fat, not what someone else dictates.

At some point, by emphasizing exercise first, the eating changes can become a cooperative effort with that, instead of rote denial which is tougher to maintain.

Bye. Look forward to the reports.

escrow-free is a joke. the best possible avenue for 7mos is a savings account with ~1% interest, so yeah if i'm doing something with a higher risk of being scammed than that, which you are because it's the internet, then yeah anyone should want an escrow

Ok weighed myself last night. Have an .mp4 file. Not sure how to upload it here. Any recommendations?

So I started today. Here's what I had to eat all day. Ate about every 2 hours:

1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup frozen berries, dash of almond milk, 1/4 cup chia seeds.
1/4 cup of mixed nuts (almonds, walnuts, brazilian, cashews, etc)
6 baby carrots
2 bananas with TBSP all natural peanut butter
1/4 cup of peanuts
Banana, 2 oranges, 2 handfuls of kale, 1/4 cup chia seeds, 1/2 cup of almond milk, 5 strawberries and ice blended into a smoothie.

My meals will look very similar to this the first week or so as I get used to this diet. Then I'll most likely branch out and find creative ways to make meals. For today, I think I made a step in the right direction.

I really don't know. I'm flat out exhausted right now. I may just go out for a 10 minute walk a couple times this week.

It doesn't appear that any bets are going to happen (if you want to cancel/keep yours, up to you). So I'm not in a rush to get to 225. Just going to take it one day at a time. Focus on diet, then slowly add in exercise.

Im up for whatever u want to do on the bet. All that really matters is u lose the weight in a healthy manner.

Do u have any friends who are into fitness and/or diet, u should get as much support as possible.

I think the ten minute walk is great start, but try to do more than a couple times a week.

Good luck!

you should probably get your proteins from legumes and not only nuts... although peanuts are legumes I guess, dont be afraid to include starch, it is pretty important to keep a decent energy level

if you want some healthy plant based recipes you can get the forks over knives app, you can also order dr mcdougall cookbook on amazon, its 300 recipes with preparation under 15 minutes

Sure, let's keep it on. My sister-in-law is coming to stay with us for 2 weeks at the end of this month and she loves to exercise, so I'm sure she'll have me out there every day for at least a little bit. My hope is that by the time she leaves, I will have a nice routine down.

I agree, it is going to be important to mix things up. Thank you for the tips on recipes, I've been doing a lot of research for meals I can make the past 2 days. I found one that is a "casserole" with brown rice, quinoa, and mashed broccoli, covered in a sauce that is completely plant based. Also looking into bean and rice burritos. Not sure how to make them without meat though, haha! To learn is to grow!

Very similar diet to yesterday. My wife and I will be grocery shopping soon to broaden my palate on this diet We are reading over recipes to find something all four of us would like.

What I had to eat today:

1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup frozen berries, dash of almond milk, 1/4 cup chia seeds - threw is some cinnamon this time. Made it better.
1/2 cup of mixed nuts (almonds, walnuts, brazilian, cashews, etc)
10 baby carrots
2 apples with TBSP all natural peanut butter
Banana, another apple, 2 oranges, 2 handfuls of kale, 1/4 cup chia seeds, 1/2 cup of almond milk, 5 strawberries and ice blended into a smoothie.
Also took some supplements - magnesium, fish oil, multi-vitamin, ACV and turmeric capsules.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to post the video my wife took of me weighing myself? It's not pretty, I'm shirtless and drunk from 10 IPA's.

Look, quitting drinking is not an easy solution. It's hard as hell. But it is a simple solution. You're taking 1000-2000 Calories a day off the table without any additional meal planning or cutting down on eating. That's a huge reduction over time.

One of the more difficult things for me during this diet will not be weighing myself every day. I just want to see results, ya know? So I lost to temptation this morning and weighed myself. Down 10 pounds to 396. I guess you guys have not seen the video yet but the scale said 406.4.

Anyway, here is my diet for the day:

1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup frozen berries, dash of almond milk, 1/4 cup chia seeds and cinnamon
1 banana with TBSP all natural peanut butter
Mexican bean and rice casserole (serving for lunch and dinner) - see link below
Apple, 2 oranges, 2 handfuls of kale, 1/4 cup chia seeds, 1/2 cup of almond milk, 5 strawberries and ice blended into a smoothie.

So this is the casserole I made today while I worked from home during lunch. Literally took 5 minutes to prepare and cost us less than $4 total for the ingredients. Was really good. I added some red pepper flakes for more kick.

My advice is to not weigh yourself at all. JUST FLIPPIN' IMPLEMENT THE FUNDAMENTALS OF WEIGHT LOSS: LESS CALORIES IN & MORE CALORIES BURNED.

No gimmicks, no scales, no fads. The summer that I made the commitment:

1. I reduced calories to 1700 per day of low fat (it was way too carb heavy to be balanced but I didn't appreciate that at the time, I was just picking the foods I loved, that I knew I could stick with, that were low fat).

2. increased calorie burn by about ~ 600-800 a day during exercise hour alone (with additional calorie burn all day long thru resulting increased metabolism)

3. Picked up some hobbies that engross you and where it is not tempting to eat (poker is one, BTW, I have a friend over 100 pounds overweight and the only time he doesn't guzzle food is when playing poker, he never thinks about it there). Some things just go with snacking (especially TV), and some don't (reading). Find yours.

4. If you are playing poker, take two 20 minute walks thru the casino during the session.

If you simply focus on calories in, that is only half of nature's equation. Which makes it stupid. It would be like trying to build a winning sports team focusing on offense only and just saying, nah I'm not gonna worry about the defense.

You dig?

Do everything right for six months and never get on a scale. It's the new lifestyle, if you can pull it off, that gets it.
