Re: An unusually tough game at Lucky Chances?
Rob, I think the biggest difference here is that you're taking the fact that Dan thinks your game is soft personally. If some live player wrote a thread like this saying "yeah the online game is pretty soft" I wouldn't really care except for the fact that there might be more nits coming online to play, but it's not a huge deal. If someone calls the game "soft" then I know they sure as hell aren't talking about me. So, why does it amuse you that Dan is telling all his online buddies that your live game is pretty soft? I don't think anyone at any point in this thread called you easy money, and while I haven't played the $10/$10/$20 at LC it has definitely been true that 95% of live poker games I've ever sat in (anywhere from 1/2 to 5/10) had a weaker lineup than your average $1/$2 6-max game on Full Tilt. So no, I don't see the amusing part in saying that the game is easy money, because that's exactly what most live games are compared to what us online players usually play. He's not saying that every player at the table sucks, so I really don't know why you're taking offense to the statement.

I'll repeat now for the third time. No offense taken whatsoever ... Dan't posts occur to me as amusing in the same way you may find it amusing to overhear three junior high school kids who are the local badasses .. sitting at the back of the bus discussing girls they plan on scoring with soon. You hear such a conversation, and it takes you back to the days when it was you sitting at the back of the same bus, having the same conversation. And as seriously as those three badass kids take themselves, and as seriously hip they are considered in their 14 year old peer group .. as a 24 year old .. you hear the conversation .. and all you can do is smile. And when they see you smiling, they don't know what is so funny about their conversation .. so the only assumption they have is that you are obviously a moron, since everybody who is anybody knows that they are three most badass dudes in their 8th grade class .. and thus hardly 'amusing' to anybody .. especially some 24 year old guy who is just soooooo obviously gay that he is smiling at their conversation about who may be getting some this weekend. I'm not saying this to be disrespectful in the least ... only to perhaps shed some perspective. As I said originally ... I'm sad to report that I'm no longer young enough to know everything .. what can I say .. those were indeed the days! Have fun at the party!

Yeah, you act like we completely lack self-awareness. We know live poker is a different game, it's just still an easy ****ing game is all. Even an online donk like me shipped like $5k playing live in Vegas this summer (all at 2/5 or lower).

Here's why poker is not as cool as you may think ... it's a sad life when your BEST possible day is to spend eight hours sitting around a table with eight guys who are stupider than you are. Because in that scenario, the stupidest guy at the table, is actually the best player there .. since he chooses to spend his time surrounded by people whom he has contempt for, and whom he considers himself superior to. Such is a sad life indeed.
Okay, that's all you get for now. See you soon !! Rob.

I enjoyed Rob's contributions in this thread, there was some good dialogue created. Anyways, this part of Rob's first post was interesting...
I wonder about what it means to be the best player @ the table and also be the stupidest. I mean, if you are one of the best players in the game and dedicate yourself to playing as much as possible, and improving, etc I'm not sure how many more profitable things there are to do.
You don't necessarily have to be in Bobby's Room - but a mid-twenties+ 10/20-25/50 online or live grinder can make a hell of a lot of money, dwarfing the average salary of a college grad. If you're implying that these people possess a brilliance that would make them social or industrial innovators, rendering 'larger' contributions to society or even their own life, then I'm not so sure about that. Surely many of these players are v smart, but above average intellect that would gain them financial riches beyond $1k/d in less than an average workday..? Not sure about that.
Whether their time is 'better spent' is a different argument altogether, one with a lot more merit IMO.

This thread is full of so much unintended comedy. Kudo's to Rob for making his points in a gentlemanly way, he's more than held his own against the onslaught.
