Re: An unusually tough game at Lucky Chances?
"A new guy is at the table now, and the game is as bad as its ever been since he's not really a fish or anything"
HEY, that's ME you is talking about sir! I was the "new guy at the table" .. and gosh dang, am I flattered or WHAT .... I mean for a player of your caliber and natural talent at the game, to describe little ol' me as "not really a fish, or anything" .. well .. let's just say I blushed and leave it at that for now.
I certainly recall watching you raise three pots in a row, which is why I decided to limp into you knowing full well that I could take it away with whatever random fool hand I had at the time. Frankly I wouldn't hesitate to disclose my hand, but the reason I can't is because I never bothered to look at it .. simply knew that if I limped, you would certainly raise and then bet the flop. Whoops, I mean I figured you would "c-bet" the flop ... excuse my occasional lack of proper 'shorthand", as I'm not very hip to the double top secret lingo of the internet poker gurus who stumble in to LC now and then.
But you certainly did "turbo-muck", right on cue ... and I'd like to offer you my "Welcome offer" that I offer all my new clients! The next time you stumble in ... and I'm in the game ... every single time you raise my limp opens and toss in that adorable little "c-bet" ... I'll refund you $20 when I take the pot away from you on the flop, or turn .. and $40 if I wait until the river. It's the least I can do.
Regarding the following hand, where you flopped top two, and rivered the nuts ... I must say .. I was pretty impressed with your uncanny ability to deduce that I had flopped a ten high flush ... I guess I'm sort of confused though, since the last time I checked a small flush on the flop was when I was 19, I think maybe you shouldn't believe everything that somebody tells you when sitting at a poker table. Do you honestly, in your heart of hearts, believe that a player who you yourself describe as "not really a fish" is going to check a flopped flush to you on every street? Seriously, think about it, okay? There are limits to your powerful and intimidating image, there really are ... and even though we were all in awe of your c-betting talents ... I'd probably make a little bet had I flopped a flush, don't you think?
Anyway, both Antonio and Phil were in town this weekend, to shoot a few episodes of "I Bet You". And I do thank you for the wonderful moments of laughter you gave us when I showed them your post, we peed ourselves laughing, seriously funny stuff sir.
Gawd, what I would give to once again be young enough to know everything.
My heartfelt advice to you is this ... and please don't take my ribbing above the wrong way .... you play fine, you really play okay. But if you are smart enough to beat these poker games .. which you clearly are ... there are nineteen other things you could be doing with your time that pay you a lot more money. Here's why poker is not as cool as you may think ... it's a sad life when your BEST possible day is to spend eight hours sitting around a table with eight guys who are stupider than you are. Because in that scenario, the stupidest guy at the table, is actually the best player there .. since he chooses to spend his time surrounded by people whom he has contempt for, and whom he considers himself superior to. Such is a sad life indeed.
Okay, that's all you get for now. See you soon !! Rob.

Re: An unusually tough game at Lucky Chances?
I think NL/Spread limit rules are based on the county/city laws. That's why Oak's continues to have only limit hold'em, as far as I have learned from talking to dealers. Colma is not in SF, so perhaps they made a change. I don't know if casinos are allowed in SF at all.

Re: An unusually tough game at Lucky Chances?
i have a final in 20 mins but i just felt the need to respond to rob's post
First of all, I don't think all poker players have contempt for worse poker players, and definitely not all poker players have this superiority complex - just because you are better than someone at something, doesn't make you better than them. I'm pretty sure DJ agrees with this.
Secondly, I don't think DJ's idea of the "best possible day" is to spend 8 hours sitting around a table with poker players worse than himself (although it might be a damn good day). If you read what he posts, he frequently schedules his poker playing time AROUND his friends, which leads me to believe that he is leading a pretty health/social life, and that his "best possible day" might well be one well spent with friends, family, or loved ones.
And lastly, sure, there might be nineteen other things that he could be doing to make more money, but I'm willing to bet he wouldn't have as much fun, and/or the jobs wouldn't offer the extreme flexibility that poker offers.
That's all, nice TR DJ. and please don't think I stalk you. although I might very well be.

Re: An unusually tough game at Lucky Chances?
he makes a good point about contempt though - any job that means being contemptuous really isn't something i'd want to spend my life doing

Re: An unusually tough game at Lucky Chances?
Not bitter in the least. Sarcastic, maybe. But there is no bitterness in my words. I meant every one, including my feeling that he plays very well. It's the boastful "smartest guy in the room" arrogance that occurs to me as amusing, that's all. And to be totally honest, I see this sort of stuff and it makes me wistful and full of nostalgia ... taking me back to the days when I too was an up and coming "little tiger", full of tricks and traps and insights into the game that only myself, and few trusted had obtained. No grudge intended, more of an introduction actually.

Re: An unusually tough game at Lucky Chances?
how come every time you get suited connectors you flop a straight and flush draw and sometimes hit? this seems like the part of my game that suffers the most imo.
