Brag: running hot AF at 1/3 at the wynn. Up about 2k in 12 hours or so.

Beat: got robbed for my BR as I slept last night at the Rio. Somehow someone got into my room and made off with all my cash sitting on the table.

Variance: I was the victim today. Sure as hell won't be the victim tomorrow or again for that matter.

Rio housekeeping staff been sketchy for years (allegedly). Search the forums for the posts around WSOP time. Sorry for your bad luck.

This. There's been a number of threads on it. As a lifelong nit, I usually stay at the Gold Coast next store. Never had a problem there.

Sorry to hear it, op.

That sucks, OP. Rio is definitely sketchy. How much did they get?

Well saying BR was maybe a bit dramatic, but they took about $2,300 and my cards, drivers license in my M-clip wallet ($200 value) that were all sitting on the table about 8 feet away from the bed.

They must have some way to clone hotel key cards because I came in the night before from the Wynn (uber to Rio). Unfortunately I didn't use the physical locks on the door. I woke up and saw the door was ajar and was like WTF. Then looked straight at the table to notice the goods are gone. The bastards crept in my room as I slept and jacked me.

It's so strange though to think that all these little things lined up to let this happen. I don't normally carry that much cash, I probably 50% of the time use the physical locks when I am in a hotel, I usually put my cash out of view, some person grew the balls to come into my room that night risking being confronted (I'm 6'2" 210 former D1 football player), risking there not being any money worth scoring at all. It's like somehow someone knew, but as said I played at the Wynn, didn't flash any cash anywhere, didn't talk to anyone except ordering food, no guests, no nothing. I guess it's just their lucky night.

Really annoying when multiple simple precautions could have prevented such a thing. I wouldn't put that much money in the safe, but if upwards of $5k would probably consider it, and definitely $10k.

Obviously sucks, but could be worse - who knows I wake up and they have a weapon or something. Will be fun flying without any ID....lol.

I'm about the least paranoid person I know, yet for some reason, I use the physical lock on every hotel I stay in.

That's a super creepy story. It also seems like a huge risk for a thief to take unless the thief knew you'd been drinking or take Ambien to sleep. Based on prior threads, I imagine Rio management and security will be of little help. Definitely do file a police report, and call the review journal to see if they'll do a story on it.

Good thoughts, and you guessed it, security is no help at all. Comparable to the a "flashlight cop" response.

I'm sorry but there is no way this happened as described. ZERO chance.

Curious as to why you say there is zero chance of this happening as the OP described? Hotels as large as the ones in Vegas are bound to hire some people that may be sketchy and would try something like this. I have read all sorts of things like this and yes, some have even happened at the RIO

Walk through it again. Step by step as described. Like a poker hand. Tell me it adds up to anything other than a billion to one.

What time did you wake up?

It seems extremely likely it was housekeeping.

They came inside to clean, instead saw you sleeping and the cash on the table, so they simply grabbed the money and left.

police report?

I use the extra motel/hotel lock(s) 100% of the time. PLUS put a chair in front of the door with a garbage can (and other stuff) on it to fall and make noise if it is tampered with.

Bottle of water, TV remote, flashlight, and Glock on nightstand next to me. I am one paranoid dude, but then again I have never been robbed in my sleep.

That is some scary stuff. Could have woke up with stranger DNA on you!

I have heard of security (Katana's posts?) talk of 'pushers'. Basically mostly females will walk down the halls of the hotels and push on doors to see if one was left open in a drunken stupor. Then go in the room and jack stuff while victim is passed out.

This years' WSOP at the RIO someone needs to set up a trap with a camera and pile of $1 bills on nightstand in their room. Put a dummy in the bed, hide in the bath tub then catch them in the act and administer some street justice.

Hilarity will ensue.
