Just say you call or push in your entire stack of chips and get on with it. Nobody cares that your knowledge of the rules are superior to everyone else's and your single chip constitutes binding action or whatever.
You probably make yourself look bad enough without anyone's help for the most part, but to clarify, this happens only rarely since most dealers pay enough attention to know what's going on. The way it usually goes down is I'll flick in a chip, dealer will look at me like a dog looking at a book, I'll say "I call" and he'll tell me okay, push the chips in.
This is about where I glare at him and seethe quietly while I push the money in. At some point after I flick the chip in, my cards will get turned up but they never leave my hand because God forbid some genius interprets that as a muck.
Also, I never claimed to know anything about dealing. I love all my friends who deal -- I know I could never do that job for an eight hour shift and stay sane.
I also love playing against off duty dealers because it usually means I can take my house payment off the board that month and spend the money on something else.
