I dunno if this is a beat or brag but I have recently switched from drinking coffee to booze (whiskey, vodka whatevs) before I start my session (online 6max nlhe cash). I have a reasonable explanation to why so please stick with me here

1) I had the same pattern for years and years where I would start off the day and play super spewy/bad and get stuck 5-10bi and then spend the rest of the day digging myself out. I could never figure out why and eventually started playing FPS and other games to get my mind going before I started grinding. It helped but not always

2) I suffer from depression and low dopamine/serotonin etc so I'm always tired. I drink a bunch of coffee so I cant least think a little. This however gives me anxiety and I lose all my patience making me spew going back to my original pattern

So one day a lightbulb went off in my head. Stop the coffee. It might seem obvious but when you are in stuck in your bubble and patterns it can be hard to change. So one day for the lols I just replaced the coffee with rum n coke. The rum took the edge off and gave me more patience and removed some of the anxiety. The coke gave me a sugar rush for those first crucial minutes of the session where I used to spew.

3) Results. I haven't had a losing session bigger than 5bi in 2 months. I almost always start out winning and book wins which hurts my volume but I don't really care. I stopped bluffing fish and bad regs and my 3bet % went from 20% to 8%. My graph went from massive losing sd to break even at sd and still kept the high non sd winnings

In the end kind of a weird brag how boozing turned me into a winning player again

Just read thread. OP it is not boozing that's making you win. Like you said, the lack of dopamine, oxitocine, serotonin, etc makes you make "losing plays". My game is literally day and night from when I'm stressed out, depressed, uncomfortable to when I'm at peace, happy, excited, elated, etc. At times I would literally make plays that are nothing but the most losing plays (and know about it) but tilt away. A reg may UTG limp-reraise me big and I would just punt my stack on a hand like QJs.

The solution is simple: Get those chemicals flowing and make poker secondary.

The check list:

-Eat well (lean meat, vegetables, whole grain oatmeal)
-Excersize (cardio, weights). Follow a regimen, doesn't have to be super body builder.
-Get fresh air (preferably in the morning or during light rain)
-Spend time with family
-Do something social at least once a week
-Go to a spa once a month (massage or whatever)
-Do fun stuff. Movies, landmarks, etc.
-Make friends and female friends, get in the dating game. Make getting laid a game and objective again. Who knows who you'll meet. You don't have to become a pick up artist.
-Cut the crap you put in your mouth. Soft drinks are a big no-no. Booze should be reduced. Sugar too. You don't wanna lower your testosterone level and increase your cortisol levels. Very important, especially if you are depressed. This sugar rush you are getting is temporary and will only make you crave more will little effect.

-Oh yeah and make sure you sleep enough and shower regularly. I know, depression can make you not want to do it.

All that and you will feel elated in the day just like winning at poker. What's the point spending hours in front of a computer if it's not fruitful.

And finally, personally I'm not good enough to beat online cash. I play certain cash games about once a week, series of several session within a weekend.

Good luck and good job in breaking even. I've been there. I'm improving slowly as well.

You raise dopamine/serotonin with sex/physical exercise, plain and simple. There is a ton u can do without any equipment and it works.
On the other hand,
Spoiler:
Don't listen to us OP, keep drinking

Yup. Physical exercise, good food (i.e.: no junk, lean meat, fish, whole carbs), good sleep and sex all increase testosterone and "winner effect" psychology. Trust me. I used to be a total degen good for nothing junkie.

That coffee, booze and sugar. Let it go for now. Once you've built physical strength, had enough social interaction and notice progress, you may have one "cheat day" a week. Trust me, you will enjoy the cappuccino and whisky a lot more and even look forward to it. The sex will come automatically once the females notice you are a "winner" at life. It all starts with a good health and positive projection on surroundings.

Right on. After i was drinking quite heavily for some time, i went cold turkey on alcohol and cigarettes for 9 months. What made me change my ways was disc protrusion.
I am doing bodyweight exercise regimen for already 4 months, eating more or less healthy, and one can have some cheats of course. I will have a beer/bourbon/some cigarette every now and then, but not at debilitating quantities i used to do before

But yea
Spoiler:
KEEP DRINKING OP

Awesome post. tbh I just expected a bunch of trolls to reply. Obviously alcohol isn't a long term fix and I just found it kinda funny how it made me play better. For those who said keep drinking etc it was never more than 1 drink. But anyway thanks for the kind words, I'll try to get my **** together.

Alcohol makes you play better because of the buzz. It works for me too but because I only do it once a week at most. After a few shots and in a while I tend to fall asleep and focus less.

It'll keep working for you if you keep it limited and do what I said.

GL!

P.S.: I meant I play live once a week (2/5 NL) and aometimes a social 20NL game to blow steam at a local cafe.
