This sounds easy. All you have to do is throw the ball most of the way, and the bounce and roll will do the rest.

V(i) = 82 mph (said u could throw that fast)
theta = 45* (for ball to travel furthest distance w/ negl. friction)
y = 5 ft (initial displacement for height thrown from)

...so change V(i) to ft/s which is 120.27 ft/s .

Now initial y-direction vel. is (120.27)*sin(45) = 85.04 ft/s

X(t) = V(i)*t + (1/2)*a*t^2

Solving for t, you get t = 5.34 s

Now solving for x-direction using t = 5.34 and theta...

X(t) = Vx * t = (120.27sin(45)) ft/s * 5.34 s = 454.13 ft

So basically it is possible when thrown 82 mph and friction is neglected. Unfortunately, that still doesn't say anything about the actual outcome... My guess would be a big fat no thou, and I've watched a decent amount of baseball.
Ha, i love this post:

- LOL Solve this easily.

- Although results are meaningless.

- Results come out to beat world record and easily win prop bet.

- My guess is there's no chance you can do it.

So much for solve this easily.

if you have to throw it 300 ft/100 yds on a line like you said

100% doable.. id get in inthe action that you could

Incidentally I lost quite a large bet with a friend over his ability to kick a 40-yard field goal in 4 tries, he made two of them and hit the crossbar on the third. And he was a (HS) linebacker. So I don't know.
lol @ 40 yards. Why not at least 50 and give yourself at least a small chance?

For Ref:

The World's Best Ball Throwers
What's the furthest anyone has thrown a ball? It's difficult to find the answer on the internet, where there are different records for baseball (North America) and cricket (Britain and its former colonies).

On August 1, 1947, a Canadian, Glen Gorbous, hurled a baseball an almost incredible 445 feet 10 inches (135.89 metres). Since then, no one seems to have broken that world record. It has been estimated that Glen's "muzzle" velocity would have been around 120 mph (193 kph), with a running start.

The Gorbous drill, a special training technique developed for baseball throwing, was named after him. It involves throwing the ball straight up in the air as a way of developing the muscles used in distance throwing.

World-famous athlete Mildred "Babe" Didrikson threw a baseball 296 ft. (90.22 metres) on July 25, 1931, and that probably is still the furthest a woman has ever managed to throw a ball.

You might think that a cricket ball, being slightly heavier and smaller than a baseball, would fly further, but that's not borne out by past statistics. Spectators at The Oval (London) in 1878 wildly applauded cricket icon, Dr. William Gilbert Grace, when he threw a ball more than 116 yards (106.07 metres) three times with the wind, and more than 100 yards (91.44 metres) in the opposite direction.

Edit Addition.

I remember reading once that some smart prop bet guy who played a night of poker vs al capone, they walked out in the morning light to get some breakfast or some thing and he said to Al Capone, I bet I can throw a mellon over that house (think it a mellon some fruit that cant be thrown easy), Al Capone said ok I take that bet, so the guy goes over to the fuit stand but instead of picking up a mellon he picks up an orange or some thing (or already has a oven treated mellon, he then promptly tosses it clean over the house.

He got paid but basicly if Capone had found out what he did he would have been delt with in their normal way of dealing with things they did not like..

it's possible to throw a baseball 100 yards.

ideal trajectory should be around 45 degrees, obviously.

i would say, warm up very carefully, then practice, practice, practice.

ask for more tries and a long warm-up period.
it's going to be very close, but i think you may have to top 81 mph.

some physics dude run the numbers.

If you want to throw the ball 300 ft. vertically all you have to do is obtain a 300 ft. ladder, climb the top (obv have someone hold base so you don't fall) and throw it downwards

profit.

ship me 2.13% of winnings

you're crazy if you think you can throw a ball 100yds into gravity i'd like to see some math tho if someone smart can do that. physics or w/e

cant be done. you can throw a ball horizontally 100 or more yards because the horizontal speed doesnt change - wind resistance. when you throw the ball straight up it's vertical speed will constantly be decreasing

gentlemen,

i just woke up and i have one of the worst hangovers of my life. We are still planning on attempting this once my hangover goes away it will prolly be this afternoon. Since we might not be able to get in the big house because of the renovations we will be going to a parking lot. This parking lot it where the michigan marching band practices, so all the yard markers are painted on it. Plus, there is a big tower that we can video tape from. hopefully we can get the vid up tonite

Using the equations of motion the distance the ball will travel
d= (speed^2)/2*acceleration due to gravity
d= (35*35)/19.6

which is 62m or like 65 yards

to reach 100 yards you would need to pitch at 210mph....lol
your equation is very wrong....you have just proved airplanes can't fly

im pretty sure a football field is not the best place to do this. Best would be to find a building a 100yrds tall and you have to throw the ball onto the roof unless there would be no way of telling how high you threw it.

I think you should perch a guy with a video camera on top of a 300 foot crane. It will be real easy to tell if the ball makes it over camera level.

Everyone who did not read the thread and made a comment about throwing the ball straight up should be banned. For the greater good of BBV.

winner!...

I pitched "A" ball in my late teens....would try to impress our rookies shagging fly balls by throwing baseballs out of our park...(8' fence...310 down the lines)

The fact OP is a lefty makes it harder for him (gimps)

Apparently the Joseph Chamberlain Clock Tower in the UK is ~328 ft.

I believe if OP and friends wanted to make a road trip across the ocean this would be ideal.

Its pretty funny that if you were to cut out all the posts that have people talking about throwing the ball straight up into the air this thread would be like 25 replies long.

Do you think I can throw a baseball the length of the football field?
