Just read the whole thread. Some thoughts:

1) I really don't think it's possible to throw a ball that high
How do you measure how high it goes, anyway? ldo.

Yeah I know these people are idiots. I can't believe anyone thinks this prop bet is doable, there's probably only 1 or 2 people on the planet who can throw a baseball 100yds straight up.....

Maybe it would best to set up a ramp or some such, so that you can get a running start with some upward momentum to it? Or it would it best be done at a standstill? Either way, throwing a ball that high in the air has to be pretty tough... GL OP.

Everything after MasterLJ's post is a level IMO

not only to you have to throw it 300 feet one way, you also have gravity pulling the ball down the whole time.

I'd say you have a 0% chance of doing this.

I bet that I could throw a baseball 100 yards in the air. They said that I couldn't.

I get three attempts at it. Plus a warm up period. We will be doing this in the Big House this week

In high school I could pitch with my top speed around 80 to 81 mph.

Do you think its possible to throw it that far in the air? If not, how far?

John Elway could barely throw it 300 feet. I hope you have an Elway-like arm.

I'd be interested to hear whether anybody who played baseball at high school thinks it's possible. I can't honestly see him doing it myself, though. I don't even see how you can get enough bend in the body to release the ball directly upwards with that sort of force without falling over. Good luck, though, OP.

i played 4 yrs varsity baseball
2 years college

sr yr hs our catcher, who got drafted 5th round by the twins bet us all he could throw a ball from home plate on a 3 step run over our 375 CF fence. of course i called bull**** and bet him 50$.. best 50$ i ever lost.. The fence was even 10 ft high.

it can be done..

and to the dumbfkuck who said how many major leaguers throw it 300ft.
a. they are usually in a stand still
b. if they threw it 300 ft, it would land in the stands, they usually are only bout 200 ft away
c. you are a moron

an above average player who has time to prepare for bout 2 weeks with long toss can get this done no doubt

I don't think is right, up in Canada they have a bunch of 109 yards passes, and those guys are all NFL rejects. No way they can throw farther.

For those interested in the height bet, you only need to throw the baseball straight up at 44.27 m/s assuming no wind resistance and in a vacuum! Thats only 99 mph. Of course that only gets you 100 meters, which is still short, so its closer to like 103mph without any wind resistance. Good luck!

omg BobbyOneTime, poty.

edit: oh yea, i used to play baseball in hs, i was the cf, and i think i could do it. But throwing 80mph off a mound doesn't translate that well to throwing the baseball very far. The technique is absurdly different. For comparison off a mound i probably topped at 65. Like all the physics geeks have mentioned, the most important things are the initial velocity and the angle. I liked the conservation of energy link too, basically you have your body and you want max initial velocity with a reasonable angle. For most outfielders this is probably pretty easy since they should have a lot of good experience with generating momentum with a run/hop/throw motion (crow hop).

Cold = more dense = more air resistance

WTF at all the replies to this thread. There's no way OP can throw a baseball 100 feet in the air.
