Prop Bet: How far can a baseball be thrown in the Air
 

Me and my mates just finished our last day of classes at University of Michigan. We have had an ongoing debate about how far I can throw a baseball in the air. So, we decided to bet a keg of Sam Adams on it.

I bet that I could throw a baseball 100 yards in the air. They said that I couldn't.

I get three attempts at it. Plus a warm up period. We will be doing this in the Big House this week

In high school I could pitch with my top speed around 80 to 81 mph.

Do you think its possible to throw it that far in the air? If not, how far?

No way you can throw it 100 yds (length of a football field). To me that seems impossible for anyone other than a Major leaguer. But then again i'm Canadian and dont give a crap about baseball.

I think 270 feet is more likely, 300 iis like throwing it 30 feet from the foul pole to home plate

100 yards = roughly right field fence to home plate right? Give or take 5 yards. Would be very tough imo.

when i first read it i thought it was 300 ft straight up in the air which is impossible to anyone except for maybe 5 people in the world like vladimir guerrero (who prolly couldn't do it anyways).

now that i figured it's the length of a football field and it can't roll i'm 100% sure u still won't be able to do it. not only u can't do it now but u couldn't do it in high school w/ a 80 mph fastball. try to buy ur way outta da bet. give em like a 12 pack or something instead of a keg and save some money.

last day of classes was last tuesday
the big house is closed to the public because of renovations

I can throw a baseball the length of a football field. Well from goal post to goal post. I can throw around 80-81. So yes I imagine you could do it. Especially if you had time to train. I did it after not playing baseball for 4 years.

I'll give it 5%, there are some people who can do it(javelin throwers...), depends on OP's physics and technical skills.

consider several facts: how many major league corner outfielders have you seen throw from deep in the outfield to home plate (~300 feet) in the air?

do you have the arm of vlad guerrero?

would your fiends let you buy out for a keg of beast?

If you could throw a ball 100 yards on the fly you wouldve got a scholarship somewhere to play ball.

I have thrown a ball from home plate over a fence roughly 100 yards away. I did this when I was 19. I have also played baseball since I was a wee one. I did not get a scholarship offer for college for baseball. It's a tough bet, but if this kid has game he can do it ---- throwing it straight up is a different story.

Throwing a ball 100 yards forward is much different than throwing a ball 100 yards straight in the air, you don't get the same momentum.
