Poker room staff calls security because I was "not polite" (or was it?)
So here's what happened. I was at the local cardroom and one of the staff members, off duty, had some halloween leftover candy. So I go "hey gimme some candy!", all smiles and fun. Now before I continue I want you to know that I have been a regular client at the place for over 5 years, also the time that I had known the girl working there and we usually joke around casually.
So she goes to me "you don't say please?" and I play along like "ok MOMMY, Please.". I could have sworn that she was joking.
Next thing I know, the security guard calls me to the corner and gives me a warning about not being respectful to the staff. I tell him right away that I was not being disrespectful and that that's just the way I talk to friends. He was not the kind of person that usually gets upset over anything but he was very AGGRESSIVE that time. Like he was standing inches from my face, raising his voice and telling me that he's about to throw me out on the street.
Now here's the interesting part:
They had a tournament tonight that was a $175 buy-in with a prize pool of over $4K guaranteed. All it required was a minimum of 10 players. We were 3 with about 10 minutes to go. So I go to the 1/2 table and try to convince people to join the tourney. I mean think about it, $175*10 = $1750. Think about the overlay. It surprised me that most people were not interested in playing and chose to short-stack the 1/2 instead.
I was even going to cover a chunk of their buy-ins but at the end we were able to put the players together. 16 of them in fact.
Now I'd like to think that the security guard was not upset at me for trying to get a +EV tournament going (as advertised). But I find it hard to believe that asking a staff member off-duty that I had known for 5 years for candy without saying "please" got him to act as if I had threatened someone's life.
Cliffs:
-$175, $4K guaranteed about to get canceled due to lack of players.
-An overlay of almost $3K was enough to make a effort to get it going so I tried to get cash players to sign up.
-The tourney takes place (barely, at game time on the dot) upon players insisting.
-I casually ask a staff member for some leftover candy and all hell breaks loose.

Re: Poker room staff calls security because I was "not polite" (or was it?)
This wasn't about candy or politeness. The staff at the cardroom have never liked you very much. They've gritted their teeth and smiled when you made stupid jokes and behaved like a fool, brushed it off when you've been rude, and politely tolerated you.
Meanwhile, you have completely failed to recognize any of it. You are socially awkward and painfully self-unaware. You think these people are your friends. You are unable to see and understand how people perceive you. Nobody at the cardroom likes you, especially not the 1/2 regs that you harassed.
Today was a tipping point. They grew tired of putting on the facade and putting up with you. Sure, their reasons in this case were trivial. But as I said, it was never about the candy. It's about you.

Ok after reading some of the brags/beats threads, I can assure you that you will now be a hero to all these low-lives as there seems to be a theme about insulting the OP's and making him feel like the scum of the Earth.
The idea of making this thread is: Why would you advertise a guaranteed tournament when you're going to give a hard time to a guy trying to get it going? 16 people signed up today. Next time they'll have 40. If it hadn't started they would still have about a dozen unhappy and non-returning customers.

This is your problem. You think the issue at hand is the merit of the tournament, or the manner in which you asked for candy. You are correct that these aren't big deals, and that your grievances are somewhat justified. The point here is that if anyone else at the cardroom did what you did, it wouldn't be an issue.
Look at the bigger picture. Think about how you are interacting with people. You sat at that 1/2 table and endlessly pestered the players to sign up for the tournament. Of course your logic was sound. There was a lot of overlay for the tournament. But you wouldn't take no for an answer.
These people have known you for years. They have had to put up with a lot of your ****. Every time you needled that old man for limping Aces, you did it with a smile and a laugh, thinking it was all in good fun. But deep inside he hates your guts a little more each day. Now you're riding his ass because he doesn't want to play in a $175 donkament.
I'm not here to troll you. I'm trying to help you. The next time people have seemingly crazy reactions to you, take a hard look at yourself in the mirror and ask why that might be.

What the **** are you talking about sir? Were you there today? I went to the 1/2 table, I took 15 seconds to politely tell everyone that there was a 4K guaranteed tourney. I didn't even sit there.
Then with 5 minutes to go before it started, me and 2 other guys went there to find out how many people wanted to play because the director wanted to cancel the tourney (of course) right away. Think about what would have happened if 10 people stood there at 8:30 and there was no tourney.
Now if we forget about those trivial reason, I'd have to question and disagree with your feedback. Do you know me? Have you ever played poker with me? This is my very first post. I get along with most people there just fine. What old man for limping aces? I don't believe I have even mentioned the card room here.

Oh, I know you.
You're the kid with unfortunate fashion sense and a goofy laugh. You quote movie and television catch phrases incessantly. You insult people in text messages, but add smiley emoticons to pass it off as playful banter. When you approach a group of people, they tend to get quiet and less animated. You're the hanger-on of your social circle, but nobody has the heart to kick you out.
But you can fix this. There is always hope. You just need to wake up. Please, wake up.
