Online poker is a total fraud and it is totally rigged. I found this message on another website which makes very interesting reading. To me it sums the whole thing up:

I am a Senior at the University of Washington with a major in Computer Science. For my Senior project I will be developing a computer program written in C++ that will emulate the algorithms used by the top online poker websites.

A close friend of mine who recently graduated with a PHD in Computer Science and undergrad in mathematics, is also a programmer, like me and a very good one at that. One of the best I have ever seen. He recently took a job at an online poker website (A very popular one) and worked on the advancement of “Statistical Algorithm Analysis” or so he was told.

Just recently he sent me an email and told me what he was doing and how this website is exploiting absolutley everybody that joins. And although he wasn’t certain he believes all poker websites have similar algorithms in place to assure maximum revenue.

Here are a list of some of the variables they use to categorize players:

These are only about 30 variables, he said they employ over 200 variables per individual.

Basically, he explained to me that there are a couple of goals that will net the most profit for any online poker website.

1. Keep the most players playing as long as possible.
2. Rake the most profit as possible.
3. Spread the money around as evenly as possible.
4. Allow players with account < X days to win a higher percentage of time.
5. Prevent (sharks) from taking all of the money from (fish).

Although, this looks like a lot he told me this is just the tip of the ice burg. They hire PHDs in Computer Science, Software Engineering and Mathematics to design and anylize absolutley everything. What he saw was only a glimpse into the data they use for flop selection turn and river determination and who wins and who loses. All to keep you playing at the table longer.

5 tasks above, then just imagine what a multimillion dollar company can do.
