Thanks everyone for continuing to check in on me despite my very conspicuous absence. I'll start with the bad stuff, and finish with a few more poker stories.
I did sorta go busto. I lost about 3 grand in 2 weeks, and I stopped playing. My road trip/hot poker run didnt change my life but it earned me a good 7 or 8 months of vacation time, got me into an apartment, and fixed my car when I really expected to arrive at my destination with nothing.
So, long story short, I decided to grow up. I landed an office job in the knick of time with a good company, and pretty much stopped playing poker for a long time. Lucky me, I enjoy my job!
When I came back to poker (with money in my bank account, and a secure income) I felt much more relaxed, and able to enjoy the game. My first two sessions were losers, (I played poorly) but I had a fantastic time. I started with a cash game.. I lost about $200 but the table was great.
The next week, I joined a $100 tournament with $25 bounty. My girlfriend's brother joined, and my girlfriend played a cash game. The tournament was deep stack, five tables. The game played very wild, but I kept my head down and slowly chipped up. I wasn't playing for bounties. When there were 3 tables left, I was sitting comfortable with 40 BB. Three others at my table had a similar size stack. A woman on my left gifted me her entire stack (I barely had her covered) in a blinds battle. My KK vs her 99.
The tournament whittled down to the final 12 players on two tables.
Here I am dealt 7
9
villain is on the cutoff, I can't tell for sure, but it looks like I have him covered. I raise 3BB, two callers.
Flop: (11BB) 7
5
4
I open 7BB, MP folds, villain re-raises 25BB, and I shove all in for another ~70 bb. villan snap calls and turns over.
We both laugh. I point at him "My nine plays!" turn is a 3, river brick. LOL I suck. Dealer counts out our chips. My refund is about 10bb. I hold up my stack so my girlfriends brother can see.
I am still having fun, and still determined to win. Two orbits later I decide to take a stand against the guy to my left trying to steal, and I lose all but two chips A9 vs his AT. I pick up my whole stack with two fingers proudly for brother to see. A couple hands later, I go all in with A9o, three players call, and check to the river. My 9 makes one pair and I quadruple up. I have 9 BB.
I am in the big blind now. Folds to the cutoff who raises 3bb, small blind raises all in for 25BB, and I look down at 99. My chips go to the middle, cutoff calls all in with 15BB Everyone flips.
Cutoff AJs, small blind AA. Flop comes TT4, turn brick, river: 9!!! Small blind collects bounty on the cutoff, and I'm counting my ~25 bb pot. The tables collapse into one, and I high five brother as we head to the final table with about the same chip size. Top 5 get paid.
We are re-seated. Half the table has less than 20 bb, and I am on the right of the guy who took the massive pot from me earlier. Me being naturally agro, (and surprisingly unnoticed for it) and he being naturally fit or fold, he became a gold mine for me (naturally!). I stole his blinds relentlessly, taking pots before and after the flop over and over again. I had about 40 big blinds when brother busted out in 8th place
The next hand I played 4
J
from the small blind in a 5 way limped pot.
Flop: 9
T
8
I check. UTG+2 (has me covered) bets pot and a half, fold, fold, button (short stack) calls all in, and I shove. UTG+2 calls.
I don't remember what the button had, but UTG+2 had two pair 9s and Ts. Turn brick, river Ten. Full house. UTG+2 smacks the table and spills his neighbors chips and I'm out of the tournament 6th place ON THE BUBBLE!
Girlfriend and brother are both sad for me, but I had a great time.
I had finally remembered that poker is fun.
Thanks everyone for your interest in my thread.
