FYP.

"EV" / "Luck" graphs tilt the **** out of me. Crutch for the weak minded imo. If you think about it for more than a millisecond you'll realize there is no way they can tell you anything at all.

I'm also willing to bet that most player graphs that are way under "EV" are graphs of players who have just been playing bad, typically "always getting it in good" which is obviously bad if you're trying to play the right way.

Not trying to be a douche. FWIW I had one of 'those' graphs too, and looking through the HHs I was nitting it up way too much and always "getting it in ahead and getting sucked out on" because I wasn't playing right.

Considering my history over the last 2 years, and the fact that I study 3/4 of my HH's...I'm gonna say I'm not playing poorly.

And a 90 buyin difference has to be telling you something. It may not be as extreme as it looks..but you can't just ignore it.

i'm sure you know this but, the EV graph doesnt have much to do with "getting it in good" which is obviously bad in sngs etc - as it is based on your expected equity from the all-in, not the chip difference. So you can't really infer this from these graph. I would happily take your bet if there was any systematic way we can show things.

People who post these graphs have been running bad in all-ins, bottom line. You can't say they played bad, or good, just that they've been damn unlucky on one of many factors - and probably the most 'visible' as well as easy to calculate - that govern how 'lucky' we get in SNGs. Whether you consider it relevant or not to sweat over this one measure of luck, I think it is fair to say the red line is a closer representation of your winrate than the green line.

Despite 90-buyins being pretty sucky, there are graphs of 200 buyin+ differences in this thread.

edit: i dont mean to say you shouldnt post 90-buyin diff graphs, just so you know that things can be 3x as worse!

Re: Official STT BBV Thread imo (beat: sngs)

And another 10 buyins below expectation in 45 games this morning.

I quit poker. Cashing out bankrolls on both sites, getting a crappy middle management job, and working 9-5. Not putting up with this crap anymore.

omg dont do that... you know what you do? Go live to a very very very cheap country where you dont need to spend more than $10 per day to have a confortable life... choose one without any case of that flu A disease... and with a good internet connection... search the web for beautifull places and take holidays while you are grinding there... that works for everybody

Re: Official STT BBV Thread imo (beat: sngs)

Dave, this is why need a deep bankroll to play sngs for living, 200 buyins+ imo...Over a 2.5 month period and around 1500 $119s, I ran 130 buyins(u do the math) below all-in ev. If you are going to play sngs for a living, then you should expect and be prepared for something like this every year or 2.

With games getting tougher and ROIs lowering, the swings are going to be worse. If that is something you don't want to deal with annually then you should probably get a job and continue to play poker on the side since you are a winning player

SIQ, For me, the red line has never been a crutch but it made me feel better because it showed me how bad I ran in that aspect of sngs(which is pretty big when you are constantly flipping).

dave, gl in whatever you choose to do(poker/other)
