Oh yeah, now that I have reached the end of this thread, anybody have suggestions on good ones to read? Outside of Moore, 1-secret-1 and Scansion? Does Tony Dunst have a blog here?

Ah, finished it all now. So dissapointed after skimming the last 20 pages or so without an update after that grueling final cliffhanger.

Thanks a lot for sharing this story, it has entertained me for hours. Call me naive but I don't find myself doubting any part of his story, I think it's clear from his writing style and responses that this was written for the most part to reflect on himself and changes he made in his life.

If you don't follow up the last part soon though, I will troll you harder than any Finn you've ever known

Spoiler:
dat cliffhanger

There probably won't be any update soon since he is going to Isle of Man for the ps player meetings and is also taking point on trying to find a solution to the ghosting problem in mtts.

See mtt-c for details.

Hey all,

And sorry it's taken so long for me to return to the thread.

I'm a pretty impulsive person and like I've said before whenever I *have* to do something it becomes a burden for me. Like, when I was in my dream job as a journalist, I would miss deadlines a lot because I just couldn't make myself write because other people were expecting me to do it. But at the same time I had no problems writing 5000 word essays on the internet about something else for fun.

The same kind of thing happened to me with this thread. I didn't really have a great plan or motivation when I started this, I just kinda did it expecting to be finished in a few days. Then people got excited which of course felt good, and for a while I was really ecstatic about having a thread that people genuinely seemed to like so much. But then it become a burden, and all of a sudden I just couldn't write about this anymore (and this year I was sick for many months too).

However, recently I've found new motivation. My writing always goes in obsessive phases, I can't just write for two hours a day every day, but rather sometimes I write for 3 days without much of a break and then can't do it at all for a couple of weeks. Lately this thread has been unexpectedly coming back to me and I've found myself taking some days off poker just to write. The other day I went to the gym thinking I'd play afterwards, but found writing inspiration and instead worked on this 4PM-4AM.

The (possibly) bad news is that I also have a new approach and what I'm doing right now is writing a full-on e-book. I don't have a publisher or anything and I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with it when it's ready, but I'm sure I'll find a way to publish it in a format or another. There are several reasons for this, and I know I will come off as a money-hungry greedster whose thread got succesful and who let everyone down because of greed, but there's not much I can do about it if people want to view me that way.

The best I can explain it is that when I look back at this thread and the past volumes I'm pretty ashamed of some of my writing and I don't think the stories work well together at all. Like, they work well in exactly this format, cool little stories for people to read when browsing the forums randomly. But if you added everything together (which is what I did when I started working on the book) it was pretty unbalanced and terrible. When I started this I didn't really have a plan of any kind, but now that I'm a bit older and (possibly) wiser I wish to actually achieve something, to summarize these difficult years in one piece that I can look back at with pride. I think this year has also influenced my decision a lot, I spent about a month thinking there's a pretty good chance I have a fatal illness and went through the normal looking back at life with regrets thing.

So yeah I'm going to publish the whole thing in book format. I have been thinking about it a lot and I have a very good plan about the structure of the book, which is going to be very different from this thread. I'm going to edit absolutely everything and along with the new material I believe it'll be roughly 4x the length of what I've written here. I know some people won't like that but it will be something that I can legitimately be proud of.

I haven't made any plans about asking money for it, but if I was faced with the decision right now I think I'd just go for some standrardish $9.99 type of pricing. I know I have promised to post the rest of the story in this thread for free, and despite what it must look like I can pretty much assure you that I'm not writing a half-assed book to get money. I don't know much about the e-book business but let's say I sell it for $10 a piece and get 50% of it myself. How many copies could I possibly sell? 1000? So right there I'd be making $5000 off a project that's taking months whereas I'm up hundreds of thousands from poker and still play HSMTTs full time. So any time I spend on this project is going to be -EV for me unless it becomes the next 50 shades of grey, which I kinda doubt. The way I see it is that in order to call yourself a published author your book has to have a price tag, and I kind of want to experience that feeling when I get an email from Amazon or somewhere telling me that some unknown person actually paid money to read a story I wrote. And it can't hurt as a future reference either, in case poker goes sour for me.

This is the plan I have now, and it could always change. It's also possible that I might post a short, edited version of just the resolution in this thread or something. The only thing I know for 100% sure is that I'm not going to post another word before I have a book that is ready and that I'm satisfied with, and I'll decide what to do with it after.

I have no idea how long this will take, as it basically seems to depend on my mood and motivation I can find. Whenever I try to force myself to write my text is terrible, but when I enjoy writing and get in "flow" I do think I'm capable of writing quite well. If I keep finding the flow like I've been lately I might be ready in a few weeks, but realistically I think this will take until February-March or so.

Lastly I wish to say that I am kind of happy it's taken me so long, because the ultimate resolution of the story is going to be different than I originally thought. I don't want to spoil any of it, but there are certain things that happened between where I thought I'd end the story and the real end of it that have influenced me a lot and need to be taken into account. The ending was always the hardest part for me when I thought about this story, because I really didn't know where or when I should stop. There was one option that would've been sad and almost desperate, and another one that would've been almost like a Disney ending. But now I know exactly how this phase of my life came to an end, and it's something else than what I originally thought it would be. I have managed to tie a lot of loose ends too - I spoke to certain ex-girlfriends for the first time in years recently - and I have a much clearer picture of everything now.

this seems like a good time to quote the cliffs from the first page. Since the story wont be told in its entirety any time soon.

Sick read. Glad to have "met" you, good job in the ghosting thread and good luck at the PS meetings.

-Dumped gf at 19, randomly quit my job and left to Australia with a plan of staying there for 2 weeks, ended up staying 2 years. Found poker working at a prawn farm
-Degen mode got me $20k in debt almost immediately after playing 25/50 before hardly knowing the rules
-Had $120 left, started studying SNGs, turned it into $20k
-Went to Vegas, got threatened with a gun in a strip bar, waved a bag of pot in the Bellagio lobby in front of everyone and somehow didn't get caught
-Learned cash, made approx $150k playing NL 6max and HU, lost about half of it playing PLO
-Pulling Patrik Antonius's pants down prop bet
-Trip to Unibet Open Warzaw including strip clubs, a brothel, an unconscious girl vomiting all over a 5 star hotel lobby and almost getting called cops on, and losing everything on roulette and flips including my watch
-Making day 2 as a chipleader of a 1650€ live tournament, going drinking on the night before day 2, getting arrested and beaten up by Portuguese policemen for hijacking a cab, then passing out on the street to get robbed at knifepoint, and after sleeping for three hours and being bruised all over making the final table
-Being robbed at gunpoint in Mexico on my way to LAPT and never making it
-Drinking @ PCA with durrrr, Antonio Esfandiari & co, and rating Antonio's gf
-Witnessing a lesbian sex act in Barcelona, getting invited to join on the condition it'd include their gay roommate
Spoiler:
I refused, sorry

-Visiting over 50 countries during my poker career, including extremely remote Pacific Ocean islands where people hadn't heard of electricity, and visiting a tribe who ate their own dead relatives
-Getting scammed by a poker site for my entire net worth at the time (over $50k, including other people's money)
-Getting a fresh start playing donkaments and slowly turning $1,5k into $220k, getting my life together, and become a solid and somewhat respected MTT pro
-Busting WSOP ME a few spots off the bubble 99<88 to a future november 9er thanks to a live misclick
-Winning $100k from a live donkament
[x] pics of gf or possibly gfs coming

That's not all or anywhere near it, but I didn't want to make the cliff notes too long.

Pretty douchey for you to wait this long and then not finish, but oh well. Couldn't say I expected much though after the sporadic updates throughout. Good luck with the E-book and your future poker playing.

Thanks for all the stories you've already shared, man.

Personally I am just really glad to hear you have a plan to continue writing, in whatever format pleases you. Of course, F the haters that think you somehow owe them something.

Keep fightin' the good fight.

OP doesnt owe anything to this thread. Its just a free forum and ppl have to be grateful for the volumes they got. I dont think too much ppl understand that writing this stuff takes a lot of time and work, and writing is something that will only turn out good if you like doing it. Very glad to hear you are planning to write a book and Im 100% sure it will be a great read, definitely going to buy when its out.

It's not that he isn't putting up the volumes, it is that he continuously said he was working on them and that they would be posted in the future when in reality that wasn't true.

I remember reading quite the opposite. That he hasn't had an urge for writing in a long time and can't say when he will finish the story, but that he did plan on finishing it some day.
