In "Confessions of a Winning Poker Player," Jack King said, "Few players recall big pots they have won, strange as it seems, but every player can remember with remarkable accuracy the outstanding tough beats of his career." It seems true to me, cause walking in here, I can hardly remember how I built my bankroll, but I can't stop thinking of how I lost it.
Had a great time at Tropicana, Borgata, Caesars, and Taj Mahal! Of course ended up down approximately a buy-in at 1-2 NL because of some pretty sick beats...I guess maybe the secret is to just not play bad hands?
1. Tropicana Beat:
Guy with about $100 stack is losing big time and guy to his right has like $1,400...he is saying he lost $900 to the guy and that the guy is terrible..yaaaa
So he is UTG and there is no straddle but of course you can blind raise...he makes it $10 blind...I am next to act and look down at Queens...I make it $25 to go and everyone folds and he is last to act...He decides to call the other $15
Flop comes out 8 9 J....nice flop...I make it $35 and he thinks for a moment and realizes he has to make the call and does so...
Turn is a 2 and he checks and I go all in and he snaps...River is a 5 or something and he flips over 8 2 of spades FTW....Good game to him, no wonder the idiot is down $900...
Pre-flop he was 17 % to win, on the flop he was 16 % to win, even on the turn that gave him two pair he was only 73 % to win! With 27 % odds, I should win every time!
Pot around $200 - $225
Taj Mahal:
Guy with around $150 stack raises big and just about everyone calls so I am last to act and call with KJ off suit...Obviosely I am behind pre-flop but hoping for a big flop with about $90 in the pot
Flop comes out K J 3
BINGO!
Heavy raising and a bunch of calling...Turn is a 2 and original raiser goes all in and I snap call....
I show him the K J and he shows me what I expected, Aces have an 18 % shot to win going to the river...River is an Ace, GG me
Pot - Approximately $325
Caesars:
CDI (Crazy Drunk Indian) guy in seat 4, I'm in seat 3....He has about $250 and I have $200 on the dot...Pre-flop raise is $5 and about 7 call to a $35 pot...I have J 9 of spades...
Flop comes out K Q 10 rainbow with 1 spade...solid, only one hand can beat me...
He instantly goes all in....I think for a while and I can see he definitely doesn't have AJ....I call and he doesn't show, I show the table the J 9....
Turn is King and river is a deuce, he of course flips over KQ for the full house, his 17 % odds on the flop might as well be 100 %...I leave pretty upset
Played very well and ended up working hard for just about every pot I won and still only ended down about a buy-in....
