He took a risk by showing my his hand-- I interpreted his action as a sign of weakness; an effort to surrender. He probably thought that if he showed me an ace, and I bet, then he could easily get away from the hand, as surely I would never knowingly bet into the best hand. But that's not how I operate. Once the villain revealed to me that he was willing to let the hand go, I determined that betting would be the optimal, most +EV play.

Revealing cards before showdown goes against poker etiquette and against rules of many card rooms.

There is a difference between bluffing and being a scumbag.
the FAIR thing to do is to play the hand like a normal person and show your cards at showdown not before. Still dont get if everyone saying it is unethical is levelling me lol.

If you truly think that, you must be one of the most naive people on the planet.
Villain clearly didn't want to get owned by a stronger ace and tried to pressure OP into checking down, pretending to be doing a nice thing.
I'm new to this whole "level"thing, so correct me if I am wrong, but I think I did one.

Triple response merging in this thread.

Both villian/hero were playing poker.

BOTH made plays, while playing poker.

Having him show me the Ace would just put me on mega tilt. I wouldn't be able to bluff at it cause i never give guys credit for making folds of trip aces, especially after he tells you he has at least trip aces. It would however probably be the end of my night. Nothing like having the guy show you the ace and check it down loose only to have someone pull the same move out 35 minutes later.

Yeah k10 6x preflop seems weird for online players but live it usually works well. Often the flop will be aqj and then u will have nuts. This doesnt happen very often online.

Top 5 scumbags in this scummy thread:

5. Player in Seat 3 - should have called floor over to to rat out OP's scumbag move and have OP immediately 86'd
4. The waitress - for not pouring every drink OP ordered on his blatantly obvious scumbag head
3. Everyone defending OP - almost bigger scumbags than OP
2. OP - huge scumbag
1. OP's Fourth Grade teacher - for not teaching the difference between ethics and being a huge scumbag

I want one person who is calling him a scumbag to answer this question: if this is such a scummy move on his part then why should I not flip over my hand every time I want to check down after the turn?

I don't care how long the two of them were at a table together, if you are not playing to win each hand against the guy, you should not be at the same table, because that is collusion.

Everybody has times on the river when they know they are beat and the only way they can win is with a bluff. Why is this guy not allowed to make that play just because the other guy decided to show him an A?

Because live poker is a social game played by gentlemen for whom honor should be even more important than winning money.

That's why you don't slowroll, you don't lie about your holdings, and when your in OP's position you check it down.

If you want to be an antisocial angling dirty ****bag then go play online, leave real poker for gentlemen.
