Some will argue that paying fewer places makes the pay for those who do cash better, but tourneys are already colossal monuments to variance to begin with and shrinking the percentage of people who cash only magnifies the variance, thus making it less attractive to the players who may not be properly rolled to take higher variance risks. IMO flatter payout structures are better for the poker community as a whole, which is why I advise against playing tournaments like these unless you have a ridiculous roll and are prepared to get chewed up by variance.
