25/50 10k starting stack with 30 minute levels. Limp-a-thon To hero on cut off, hero raises 525, folds to Villain on HJ who pushes all in with stack couples hundred less than the Hero.

Hero calls with AA, HJ shows 85o.

Board runs 835JQ lol. I keep saying I won't play low buy in donkaments and get myself aggravated. But should I be happy that many players like this out there to finance tournaments???

No, you want to be sitting at tables with 9 Fedors.

You got a bad beat. Suck it up like a champ instead of whining on poker forums.

Assuming it's a multiple re-entry format. I guess the guy's strategy was to take a wild gamble with literally any two in order to play with a big stack very early on.

Maybe it'll take one more double-up gamble to satisfy his early monster stack goal.

wow did you really lose with AA? That's sick bro. You were like 96,5% to win it. Always sucks to lose to about a 3,fiddy %

S.Fla reg here, that play is super standard in these tourneys, I have seen tables where the 1st hand is 6+ people all-in in the dark, one person scoops a big stack and 5 people go rebuy and try again.

The problem with this format is that it might as well be winner take all, they barely pay anyone (1 in 16 as opposed to the standard 1 in 10) and when they do its still pretty bad until 5th - 1st. This tournament had over 1600 entries and 15th (top 1% of field) didn't even make 10 buy-ins.

I advised all my friends to steer clear of this one, but there is a 360 bi with 500k gtd coming up in January that has good value, play that one.

Here's the same tournament, run 3 months ago.

$150 Buy-in $150k GTD

Cliffs - 1,841 entries 108 places paid.

Some will argue that paying fewer places makes the pay for those who do cash better, but tourneys are already colossal monuments to variance to begin with and shrinking the percentage of people who cash only magnifies the variance, thus making it less attractive to the players who may not be properly rolled to take higher variance risks. IMO flatter payout structures are better for the poker community as a whole, which is why I advise against playing tournaments like these unless you have a ridiculous roll and are prepared to get chewed up by variance.
