Wow, terrific TR thread, man. I hardly use the star rate function but I did this time. Sounds/looks like one hell of a trip you've been on.

I'm from Aus too. After seeing so much of the world, how do you view life/culture/society etc in Aus now?

I don't see it that much differently to before I left. I had done a bit of travel before this trip, so I knew a bit about how the rest of the world works.

To be honest, Australia doesn't have a 'real' culture compared to a lot of the world

Summary in regards to life/culture/society...

Australia and the USA/Canada are very similar.

Australia and a lot of Asia are completely different. Generally Asian are a lot friendlier, have a real culture and value family a lot more than Aussies.

Europe just has so much history. It makes you realize that Australia really doesn't. In Europe, you can travel a few hundred kilometers and everything is completely different (life/culture/society). Australia, there aren't major differences across the whole country.

One thing that still frustrates me is that in a lot of areas, people work slow. I thought being a full time traveler would help me relax in this manner, but I hate watching people work slow. Some countries/areas, that's just the way it goes and you have to just deal with it. Still frustrates me no end.

Yeah I always felt there wasn't much culture here compared to the rest of the world which makes sense considering the amount of time Aus has been a nation. White Aus anyway Aboriginal culture goes way back. It's probably why whenever the Queen or whoever visits we always have Aboriginal dances or stories instead of a bunch of blokes standing around in Akubra hats drinking beer complaining about that mongrel ref.

Did not expect that. I always thought most Aussie's were on the higher end of the friendly scale. The family thing doesn't surprise me though.

I always thought that could be a pro. People seem to work so hard in Aus there's no time for anything else. People always look so relaxed in places like France or Italy (and others).

I've been slack in telling stories, so I'll give you an update.

After finishing in Asia I came back to what I feel is my second home... the US of A.

I spent some time in Florida and Colorado house sitting. I love Colorado, particularly the mountains, with the exception of getting exhausted every time I walk up stairs (partly due to my fitness levels and partly due to the thin air). We were staying in a place with 4 floors and I needed to rest when trying to get to the top level. Had a great time there. So many 'products' to choose from. There was one that freaked me out a bit, which never normally happens. Spoke to the better half in the morning and she had the same reaction, so it wasn't just me. Having said that we haven't had any products for 12 months so it was well and truly out of the system.

After our US stay we flew down to Belize for 8 days before flying to PV, Mexico for 5 weeks. I don't love or hate Mexico. It's a bit of a weird feeling. It was cheap though but it's no good when you are sitting on the beach to turn around and see some guy having a piss.

We have now come across to Turks and Caicos for two weeks. Talk about paradise. Just ridiculously nice here. I think I could live in the Caribbean, maybe even get a boat and cruise from island to island. Pitty I know nothing about boats. Oh well looks easy, what could go wrong?

After our stay here we go back to Florida for a month for a house sitting gig. We've done the same sit now several times. Really nice house and great pets. Also really nice owners who really go out of our way to make us feel like family. Got a feeling that they will be leaving their pets to us in their will. I'm only half joking...

The plan after that is to spend 6 months in the Caribbean. The first 3 months are almost certain to be in Bahamas. The next 3 months we aren't too sure where it will be other than it will be in the Caribbean. We would like to come back to Turks and Caicos but it's super expensive here. Yesterday we went shopping and it cost us $450 for a trolley full of groceries. Would have been less than $200 in the US.

After 6 months of slow travel we plan on completing another road trip in the USA. Our intention is to start in Florida and drive the coast up to Maine. We will likely stop in New York for a month, but that will depend a bit on how our $$$ are going, as New York is obviously not very cheap.

That should see us through to the middle of summer next year. After that, it's up in the air. Maybe back to Europe or maybe back down to the Caribbean. I got a feeling we might be all americaed out by then, so maybe Europe is the option.

Anyway that's the update. If anyone wants a proper write-up on any of the places I've been let me know. I'll try and keep it entertaining.

As a reward to listening to my ramblings, here's some pretty pictures

You can walk out to that boat (it's a ship wreck) in the distance at low low tide

Finally got a half decent star photo - It still doesn't do it justice for how good it looks - I haven't seen it this clear since being in the Aussie outback

Looks absolutely stunning. I could definitely live in T&C. How's the internet connection, conducive to grinding or no?

I had some Colorado cookie issues myself, wrote it off to being a consumable n00b and counted it as a win that I wasn't dragged out of the hotel raving maniacally.

So fid visited another stunning location looking like paradise; making us all jealous and questioning our own mediocre lifestyles in mundane places with cold & wet climate? Yawn...

Still living off money saved, plus we do some online stuff to help the bank balance.

I was never a full time grinder. I only play for fun.

This is by far the most asked question I get (maybe along with "What's your favorite country?). We will go back when this stops being fun. It could be in 3 months, or 3 years.

For the last 7 years or so while I was in Australia I lived in Queensland while most of my family lived in Western Australia. So really it's no different now. I use to see them once a year back then, now I see them about the same, when they come see us. It gives them an excuse to go traveling. Skype is great for talking to friends and family.

We aren't going to have kids, so there is no big rush to go back.

And my 'normal' job can wait until I'm ready

Latest Update...

After spending 5 months in the Bahamas, I'm returning to the USA in 2 weeks. We will either spend 2 or 3 months there (depending on what Mr Immigration says). If we get 3 months we currently plan on the following. One month in LA, 1 week in Denver, road trip from Denver to Las Vegas (a week or so), Las Vegas (a week or so) and then a month in New York.

Once we have finished that we're off to Europe. Plan at the moment is to spend 3 months there, which will include time in Denmark, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland. My plan then is to find Morph and kick his ass for taking my LoL Mod gig.

That will see us through to the end of summer and we are not sure what the plans are after that. We thought maybe the Caribbean again, but while Bahamas has been great but it can get boring after a few months. We don't do cold so might have to find something in the southern hemisphere.
