Also why is phuket your least favourite city?
We stayed in Barbados for about 7 weeks last year. Was a great island, but not really much to write about.

Lots of beautiful beaches.

Locals were generally ruder than I would have thought.

The End

I have no idea what you mean by those "weird flaming torches"

I didn't like Phuket because you are always getting hassled. "Massage" "Tuk tuk" "You want a shirt". The amount of times I got asked if I wanted a girl, while holding my girlfriends hand was ridiculous. Too many 60 year old men with 18 year old girls. One woman grabbed my gf by the arm while we were in a shop so she wouldn't leave. Had to eyeball her before she let go.

In hindsight we should have got away from the tourist area more. We did enjoy one of the trips out to one of the islands, but the tourist area is just ****ty.

Don't know if stated already but after all them nice trips, and you getting really really old , can you think of a city where you would buy a house to spend some very long period of time or your vacations or even for good (when retired or something)?

Very nice thread.

It was more than just the way it was cooked, it is was the cow the steak came from. I don't know where he got the cow, but I think it might have been heaven.

It basically an ongoing trip. I don't think I'm that old

I don't imagine buying a house for a long time, if ever. There are a heap of good countries that I could imagine living in for a long time though.

Only Vancouver and Toronto this time. I have been to Calgary though and really liked the Banff area. One of the best scenic drives I have ever done was through that area.

This is BBV so I guess you should also rank/list annoying or strange things people do in their country, funny habits... Stereotypes also welcome.

Fidstar, you have been one of my least favorite bbv regs for a while but this trip report earns you a few points. I completely understand how awesome it would be to stop working like crazy and see the world while I'm young. Much respect for actually doing it. Life is short and people like you that take advantage of their time here are usually pretty cool people. Very jealous. Keep enjoying it.

+1 to that I always wanted to do smth like that and probably will much into the future when Im way too old to really enjoy it. ATM Im stuck with my mid level career plus meager extra moneys from pokers and cant do it neither financially nor careerwise. Wish I was you.

Posting to sub. Santorini is now on my list!

Think we must have stayed in v similar hotel in sorrento as I had near identical view in the summer. The ones up in the hills, about 2km from town? Amazing.

As for London, shame I've only just seen this thread. It's a place full of great spots, just need to know where to look. Lmk if you head back.

Sounds like the same hotel. You drive up a windy road to get there, got a swimming pool, all the apartments look over the water/town

Off to Asia after we finish in Canada. Seeing 6 or so countries over a few months.

Second steak was from Oscars in downtown.

A couple of reasons. One is they are expensive and we are paying for it from our savings, and don't want to burn through them to fast. I have also been to Fiji a while back (before this trip) and we did do the Caribbean on this trip.

Having said that we are stopping in Hawaii for 10 or so days on our way over to Asia, which will be pretty awesome

Fair enough.
I stayed in Barbados for 10 nights last year in June. Was generally nice, but the weather was kind of disappointingly ****ty. Was hoping for like picturesque bright blue skies, but was generally pretty grey. Only really went to the beach twice, and the 3rd time we went to a beach it started raining 15 minutes in.

I did go swimming with turtles and tropical fish though on one of those catamarans, which was ****ing amazing. Also went to a kind of beach party outside in a club which was good. Did you do any activities like that? Or did you go to Oistin's on a friday night?
And yeah the locals were really polarised to either very friendly, or like really pushy and trying to sell you things, or some on drugs. Even had one guy randomly try and pick a fight with me from absolutely out of nowhere. He started arguing at me because I wasn't being friendly to him, but he didn't see the irony. Mental.
But one reason I asked is because you said you were going there for 8 weeks, and Barbados is tiny! Even 7 weeks I was trying to imagine what you would do the whole time without re-doing things. Where abouts did you stay?

And yeah I picture the non-central city parts of Thailand and Phuket as those beautiful beach photographs with the sun setting that I've seen from tons of grinders there. So I guess maybe you should have gone there more, would like to go there myself too.

And I meant the flaming torch picture you took that's further up this page, which kind of looks like some creepy cult thing.

Also are you actually married then? Or just long time girlfriend?

First things first, really nice TRs - thanks for sharing

Just don't get how everyone rages about Interlaken when coming to Switzerland. My gf works in a hotel there and every asian/arab tourist just stays there for a week or smth and moves on to the next country IMO it's a boring, small town which obv has the advantage that you're near the alps/tourist spots. Then again, cities like Bern, Lucerne, Locarno, Lugano, Zürich etc. have so much more to explore. Which other cities in Switzerland did you go to?

One of the things I like doing is get a bit lost in a place. Walking down random roads, driving into an area that other people don’t go and such. Basically seeing more of the town/city than just the touristy bits. It’s one of the reasons I like Paris, New York and Amsterdam.
Agreed on this one, that's one of the reasons my gf and I go back to Amsterdam every year (besides the good ol greeeens )

Any hotel recommandation for Santorini? Looking to go to Greece ~September

It's pretty It probably would be a boring place to live, but not for passing through. Has one of the best backdrops to any place I've been. I'm also not one for the nightlife, so that doesn't worry me.

We also stayed in Zurich, which we enjoyed.

Amsterdam is awesome. Would be awesome without the weed. It is just more awesome with. The only problem is if I smoke I never want to go out, so I always keep it under control when I'm there.

Sorry no recommendations for Santorini as it was only a day trip off a cruise. Staying in one of those houses built on the side of the cliffs sounds cool, though I assume expensive.

We went swimming and snorkeling a lot. Didn't go see the turtles though. We did do the fish market thing (Oistin's), which was pretty cool, but nothing fantastic. We did all the gardens and parks, plus the caves, so we kept ourselves entertained.

We stayed in a house sit several kilometers from the airport. We mainly just relaxed and didn't do much. We wouldn't have wanted to stay there any longer.

Ahh, that was in Vienna. We just walked along the street and saw it. Was surreal. I think it was the start to some play or something. Or maybe it was some satanic ritual. Yeah, that sounds cooler

We just use the interwebs for cheaper tickets. We use skyscanner a bit. Sometimes it can be cheap (like the flight from Toronto to Hawaii was less than $400). Sometimes it's expensive.

We don't change our plans based on ticket prices though. We will plan to stay in one place as much as we can, before we fly though.

Updates:

Leaving Canada in 36 hours and flying off to Hawaii (Waikiki, Kauai and Maui) for 18 days before flying to Asia. Stops in Asia include Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto), Thailand (Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui), Philippines (Cebu), Singapore and Hong Kong over 10 weeks or so.

After that we head back to the states where we will spend time in Florida, Colorado and Las Vegas (for my birthday! ).

To be honest I'm just glad that I will be out of the cold weather. Love Canada, but it's so cold. I feel like I've been hibernating. Here's some photos of the coldness...

Cold out. Coldest I think it showed was minus 24 Celsius (or minus 10F)
