Very nice too - I hope my year(s) of traveling will be half as good as yours sounds. Also, coming to the UK and visiting Colchester is an odd choice. Next time you visit do not miss out Scotland!

In France we visited Paris, Cannes and Nice. We also visited Monaco while we were down South. Paris is pretty cool. I like me some good architecture and there was plenty there. Not as good as Barcelona but still really good.

There are heaps of house sitting web sites. You pay between $20 and $100 a year to join them and you apply for the ones you want or home owners approach you. The best two sites I find is trusted house sitters and house carers.
House sits can be a few days or up to a year.

I'll do another post later about some of the house sits we have done, but some have been million dollar homes.

Couple of random stories from the USA:

1) We were driving down the road in Savannah, Georgia when we drove past a park and saw a guy taking his tortoise for a walk. First I thought it was remote control, but we stopped, jumped out and went and had a look. Hilarious. Hope he wasn't in a rush.

2) When we stayed the night in Omaha, Nebraska we heard these faint sirens in the distance. There was a big storm about and we were parked in a car park. We just stayed there. The next day we learnt that there had been a tornado only a few miles down the road. Now we know what a tornado siren sounds like. Must remember that next time.

3) Had a sea lion take a shot at me for getting to close. Don't know if I've ever moved so fast in my life. New pair of underwear needed...

Enjoying reading a lot OP! You hear a lot of people complain that doing stuff like this isn't really possible while at the same time spending half of what they earn on paying interest for cars and apartments/houses that yield little happiness. It's nice that people like you prove them wrong.

Do the house owners favor your profile (couple, in a "good" age) or is it possible for a single man in his mid 20's to get into house sitting as well? I would imagine girls have a much easier time.

It's definitely possible. You just got to want to do it.

Honestly, it's really tough as a young male to get a lot of opportunities, but not impossible. You are unlikely to get the great house sit jobs as you will be up against too much competition. For example the house sit in Barbados we are doing had over 80 people apply for it. If someone has a choice between a middle age couple and a young guy, then 95% of the time they are going with the couple. But you don't have to be in a couple. My mother in law is in her 50s and gets house sits a fair bit. She has real bad arthritis and moves around like a snail. People like her because they know she will never go out and their house will be occupied all the time.

That doesn't mean you can't get them. You just got to sell yourself as someone who isn't a party animal and because you are a young male you can fix stuff around the house if something goes wrong. If you have a good profile and talk about being the captain of the chess team and you use to be a handyman, you might have a chance.

Why would you want stories that might be about your mum. Seriously though the hookers in Amsterdam are just ridiculously hot.
