so you'll teach them how to fetch coffee and lose at table tennis?
Sounds fun.
I could never imagine working for a huge company though. I know it's a path that a lot of engineers end up on. I never wanted to feel like a cog in the wheel (not saying you are). I always wanted to feel what I did influenced the outcome of a job. I always loved that pressure.
My advice for an engineer (who is interested in the Construction side anyway).
1) Start on a medium size job - $10-$50M (do a job or two start to finish - maybe two years). Main reason is so you are exposed to how the dynamics of a site work as well as learning wtf actually happens on a construction site.
2) Next complete a bunch of smaller jobs - up to $10M. The main reason for this is that on the smaller jobs you're exposed to a lot more areas within the construction. Not just one particular area, which happens on the bigger jobs. By being exposed to more stuff means you can work out what you actually like.
3) Then do what you actually want to do. After 4 to 5 years you should have worked out what you want to do by now.
