I've been playing the game for 7 years now. I've been a SSNL grinder for about a year and a half. I've had big success and big failures. Altogether, I'm up about $10k over my time of playing. For that year and a half, I played/studied about 40 hrs/week. Recently, I finally decided to quit poker. Why? Well, I tilt a lot and I can't manage it. My game is pretty well developed, but mentally, I can't handle the challenges.
I would like to end my 2+2 career by summarizing my thoughts. I decided to put them here in BBV so I could be flamed, mocked, and humiliated before moving on with my life.
I want to go pro, and/or I want to get good at poker to avoid work
This is the number 1 attitude I see in young players. 99 percent of you will fail. Having desire is one thing, but a pipe dream is something entirely different. Every successful professional grinder earns tons of money before going pro. If you ain't making the money now, you can't go pro. So get your degenerate asses back in school.
We can all be great players
This is a huge misconception. TheNikachu (successful 5/10 grinder) told me that only 5 percent of all poker players have what it takes to win. 5 percent of that population has what it takes to win and enjoy what they're doing. Finally, a rare 5 percent of that population has what it takes to win and enjoy it day in and day out. This is BalugaWhale, Dusty "Leatherass" Schmidt, and Nanonoko. Not you.
Internet poker is an exciting, unique, individual way of supporting yourself
Not really. It consists of sitting on your ass 10 hours a day staring at a computer screen, clicking buttons, and peeing into jars. As you move up in the stakes, you play against more and more ******s doing the same thing. Everybody is just hoping that some mega-fish sits at the table and loads off a cool 10k. In effect, every good poker player is a bum hunter. ******s and gambling addicts are the best players to play against. Should you really be proud of taking their money?
You're just a donk who sucks at internet poker
Yes, this is true.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed my reflections on the waste that was the past 7 years of my life.

Something tells me that if your poker career had been more successful, you would not be making comments like this. Sour grapes IMO.
how do you play SSNL for 30+hrs a week, for 18 months, and only make ~100 bi's if considering 100nl, or 50bi considering 200nl, and also considering rakeback...?!
ya ur prolly rite that most ppl suck at poker. and have this fantasy that theyre going to hit it big, again. and wont lose it all, again. but if we have no other way to make money, ie: i live out in the boonies with no jobs. this is the only way i can make money without being homeless for awhile and getting a job in the city. but if we dontt try how will we ever win?
Great observations. I really hope you get out and stay out for same reasons you stated. You are up overall after 7 years of playing??!?!?! That in itself is incredible and you should be proud of it.
I stopped playing online over 3 years ago and have only played B&M/local clubs......and I feel the same way as you. I'm up really big over the last year, but overall I'd say that in 5 years of playing I've definitely lost overall. I havent played in 2 weeks, but I'm not rushing to go back to playing. I go to the Casinos and see the same degen mopes everytime and wonder if I am going to be one of them. It REALLY depresses me thinking that.
I agree that young kids think they are all going to crush poker for a living, and 99% of them have their world come crashing down around them when they find out they can't feasibly do it, however in the process they have pissed away college and gotten themselves in a hole, as well as given themselves a ****ty work ethic and lazy look at things being a poker player. Guys like myself who worked 80 hours a week at the age of 19 busting their asses to make $$$$$$ are a dinosaur nowadays.
Anyways, congrats
[x] Great Observations
[x] Thanks for the honesty
