I know this will get flamed as it's not degen-enough but it ****ed me up pretty good anyways.

I've had a sports betting "issue" since I was of legal age and have done what all young lads do, £10, £20, £50 gone down the bookies and whatever. However about a year ago I found some tipsters on Twitter and started to get into horse racing.

In February I had £200 bet on three horses, three £50 singles and a £50 treble. I was a student at the time but earned around £200 a week at the time from DJing and supplemented this with the odd win from local cash table (full of inbreds and scumbags, I'll never go again in my life) so although the money wasn't an issue it was still not to be sniffed at. The horses all came in and I had around £700. If anybody knows UK horse racing the Cheltenham Festival was in late March and after this win I started to put my antepost bets on the supposed "guaranteed winners".

As the festival drew nearer I kept putting bets on these horses, every time it would be £100 on a horse if the odds changed slightly, but one in particular was allegedly "bombproof" - if any one knows it, I'm referring to Hurricane Fly.

Overall in antepost bets for the week I had easily £2500-3000 spread across these horses, with loads of doubles and trebles as well but I had about £800 with various bookies on Hurricane Fly. he ran on the first day of the festival, was a huge favourite, and of course lost. I was in deep brown stuff and had £100 left over in one of my accounts after a smaller bet had come in earlier in the day. Some complete lottery of a race was the last of the day and the favourite was 7/1 - so obviously, I just thought "***" it and whacked £100 on - it won. Cue screaming and relief.

To cut a TL;DR short I ended up being approximately £4,000 up from the Tuesday-Monday period. By the following Friday I had lost it all back to the bookies on the horses, plus an extra £600. Called GA, Gamcare, felt like topping myself etc etc - don't touch sports betting now, finally off it thank God.

To those who have degened up thousands of dollars at online casinos (and sometimes from not so large starting amounts), how have you done it? Because I haven't had any good results whatsoever.

Every time I degen on internet roulette and blackjack it always just ends up being like a $200 or so loss for the night. Am I betting too small? Any tips would be appreciated.

Step #1: Ensure that the money you are about to gamble is money you can't afford to lose

Step #2: Bet like you got a pair No mamby pamby "safe" bets. F*** that. Go Big or Go Home!

Step # 3: Get on heater

Step #4a: Win lots of money

Step #4b: You will be hit with a moment of clarity where you realize that you've beaten the odds, had a kick ass run, and have made lots of money. During this step you will be hit with the ephiphany that you should stop now which leads to....

Step #5: Ignore the angel on your right shoulder and listen to the devil on your left. Keep betting and increasing your limit. You rungood at 100NL and win $800, take that entire $800 and play 500NL. You rungood and win $2,000 take that entire $2k and go to 1000PLO. You rungood and win $7k then take that $7k over to the blackjack min $500 bet table until...

Step #6 Ignore the backslide. The heater runs out of rungood juice and the math starts to catch up with you and you begin to backslide. Don't worry, keep betting and procede onto step #7

Step #7: Motherf***in Mega Monkey Tilt! Yell and scream everytime you lose. Let the rage build until it becomes a white hot sun inside of you and then...

Step #8: Chase your losses. Obsess about the fact that at one point you were at $40k. Completely ignore the fact that you started with $100 and are now at $30k. All that matters is that at one point you had $40K. Focus on that with the intensity of a 3yr old staring at the cookie jar at the top of the refridgerator...

Step #9: Ignore your balance and just keep betting until...

Step #10: Busto!!!!

Seems the way my degenning goes is usual consistent: play with strict BRM following a big loss/bust, play well, don't tilt, slowly build roll, get bored or drunk or both, play too high, lose, player higher, lose, HU4ROLLZ, win thousands, go back down to strict BRM, get bored, play high, lose, repeat.

My degen story.

Went to the casino and played some $300nl poker. Haven't had a profitable session live in maybe the last 5 or 6 sessions. I only play once or twice a month so that's a few months for the slow ones... Hit a few good hands and built up my stack to around $600. Decided i needed to have a winning session and cashed out.
On the way back to the car i decided to 'pop' a $50 into a pokie/slot machine. Lost it and lost the rest of my $600. Went to the cash machine and took out my daily limit of $1000 and lost it all too.

Came back to my car and realised I had mis-placed my parking ticket so i couldn't even get my car out of the car park. Took me 2 hours to get home at 3am in the morning... Which takes 15 mins to drive.

Hilarious month I had before moving back to Ottawa, was in St. Catharines just outside Niagara falls living with a buddy and my lease ended after April. I couldn't move to Ottawa until June 1st so I rented a room at this Colombian guy named Fabian's house for all of May. Had recently been fired from my call center job so basically only had enough money to pay him and buy some food and a couple pack of smokes and a quarter of bud. so I do that, sign up for welfare (which I've been on before but hadn't been on for about 6 months since I was working) so I have to walk like ****ing miles and miles each way to go to these welfare meetings and **** to get back on it. takes hours each day for a couple days. better than working landscaping or some bull**** though. so i finally get accepted back on and get the $599 welfare. Put $300 on Bodog poker and lost in playing PLO within a few days, actually ran it up to about 3k then lost it in a night at 600plo. so I take the other $300 to Casino Niagara the next day, $15 for a bus ticket 2 ways, only about the 7th of the month at this point and this is my last money until June 1st welfare. sit down at a new table opening up and buy in $200, really old guy to my left i hit 6's full on a 45568 board and win about $100 off him, then very next hand I lose like 75% of my stack with 910s flopping top pair+flush draw all in on flop. so i bring out my last $100 and spend the next 18 hours straight grinding that $150 up to about $450 after stacking some massive jacked black guy with 7s full, by this time i'm so tired and burnt out i don't even care, get AQ raise pre, flop Q33 bet huge guy calls. turn 9 bet huge again he shoves i call it all off and he has Q9 and i'm broke. spend the next 3 weeks smoking weed out of a water bottle bong and eating food from the food bank lol.

Have a mate who believes that he knows a method to win at online slots, and I ofc tell him that it's BS, and we argue about it some and eventually I give up because he refuses to believe that he is ever wrong!

Anyway, one night he was playing the slots - he started with £270 in his account. He also has on his wall a 'to do list' for the year which includes "Make £5000 and Save £5000" - anyway, I'm in my room grinding poker whilst he's playing the slots. He calls me to his room after a while, and shows me he's won £2k. At which point I tell him to stop, he's made a good amount of money and he should quit while he's ahead. He agrees, and logs off. I go to bed at that point.

Next day I wake up and we go town to go shopping and spend some of his winnings... oh no wait, sorry. I wake up and he informs me that he started playing again and got his £2k up to £5k... great! He achieved his to do list in one night. But instead of consulting his list, he carried on playing, and yep, you guessed it. Ended up completely broke.

I can't really say anything though, don't want to be pot kettle black. I've built rolls up to £20k and then donked off most of it playing stupid stakes before. But at least I've cashed out some money that I didn't donk off!!
