Why does everyone complain about the amount? These stories are just as interesting to me. His reaction to the $20 is even moreso than some of the people who don't care about losing $10,000, it's the reaction that matters and what losing meant to them, not what it would mean to you if you lost the same amount.
As for me, I have some degen stories, but they all really tie back to online roulette, and I've never lost like life-changing money and got addicted and kept depositing to chase or anything but more recently I had the same thing some others talk about happening. This is my most recent one. I had $5,000 on a sportsbook, this is the most I've ever had, I'm 21 years old and haven't worked a real job ever except for 3 months helping my friend's dad at his shop for like $8/hr. I got this money by mostly getting lucky with sports parlays, but am determined to take this money out and not lose it. I wanted to withdraw but mentally I could not withdraw without having at least $6,000. I thought it would be so much better to withdraw on a high note. So I leveled myself into thinking, "well... I should put $1k on red and if I lose, I just suck it up and withdraw that $4k but if I win I have that $6k and I can withdraw on a high note. So just one spin..." I go to the roulette, and choose the room with the max bet of $5,000, I wait a bit look at what's been coming up, first spin I see when I get there is a red. I watch 6 more spins and they are ALL black, so I'm like, uh well obviously it's coming red. I put 2 $500 chips on red, panic for a minute, take them off... "last bets", it says. I panic again and just flip the 2 $500 chips back on the red. The wheel spin feels like forever, it finally plops around... Black. I hate myself at that moment, because I told myself I would stop. Any degen knows, you just tell yourself that **** knowing you're gonna win. If you lose, every deal you made with yourself goes out the window. Without skipping a BEAT I clicked the $500 chip denomination... click, click, click, click. I put $2,000 on red. It's GOTTA be red this time, just can't not be. Martingale is the BOMB, let's do this!! I see, "last bets" on the screen.... "Oh, ****! I really did it!!" I quickly realize what I have done and start staring at the screen intently, "no more bets." "Well, here we go, I guess." Plops around, we all know how this story ends. Black. I literally look up to my ceiling and scream at the top of my lungs, "NO!". My heart is going a million miles a minute. I have enough control to know I don't want to put my last $2,000 on a roulette spin. If I'm leaving with anything it has to be this 2k, I'm not ****ing losing this. So before my brain could even start to argue back at me telling me I should spin it, I use my control and exit the roulette window.
So I start pacing around my house. Thinking if there was anything I could do, obviously there isn't. Now, I have been extremely lucky in the past with parlays so I don't give myself credit to win any more lucky ones, but I think, well... all or nothing really. I decide I'll put $1000 on 3 NBA games for that night, and if I lose, just withdraw my 1k and just move on with my life, that'll get me lunch for a few months and maybe some new clothes or something, so it's not the end of the world. All this happened at 9am after staying up all night, I was tired, but could NOT fall asleep in my bed. I get up out of bed, place the bets at the sportsbook, and go back to bed and try to sleep.
Sorry for the people who wanted a bad ending, because I am the luckiest person ever with sports parlays and I won my parlay that night $1,000 paid out $3,575, so I made it back up to $5,575. Degen story ended happily, hopefully I don't give in to stupid ass things like that again ever...

Nope, you are a ticking time bomb waiting to happen. Trust me, I know from experience.
The monkey, demon, gremlin (whatever name you give the gambooler inside of you) won that night. It got you to bet EVERYTHING even after telling yourself you wouldn't, even after making deals with yourself, even after swearing to yourself, you still bet it all....
So, you are primed, lubed, and ready to go for the "next" time. Whether it is next week or next year, you've got a hell of degen bender waiting for you.
FWIW, I hope you don't ever do that again...

Re: Degen Stories....
Was playing 2/5nl poker during the San Francisco vs NY Giants game two weeks ago. Guy at our table is sweating bullets. He had bet not one, not five, but $10K on the 49ers to win.
We are at the table and the action is on him, but his eyes are glued to the game.
effective stacks $1500
He's on the BTN, UTG raises to $20, one caller it gets to him, he looks at his hand and raises to $100 then returns his attention to the TV, BB calls, UTG calls, MP folds, 3 way action.
Flop($320) K J 9
BB checks, UTG bets $100, BTN is watching the last few minutes of the game. Dealer directs his play to the table, he quickly looks at his hand and the board and throws a out $100 and turns his chair around to yell at the game, BB calls.
Turn($620) T
BB shoves all-in, UTG shoves all-in, 49er player just fumbled the ball and BTN is yelling "You F-ing idiot!!!"
Takes a minute for the dealer to get his attention asking the BTN "the bet is all-in, action is on you sir" his says this multiple times and the BTN annoyed just looks back at the board and waves his hand, "Yeah, whatever, I told you I called"
River(4500ish) 2
BB shows QQ for the straight, UTG shows set of Kings, BTN is completely turned around in his chair almost in tears saying, "F--- i just lost $10K, I'm so F---ed". Takes a minute for the dealer to get his attention saying "Sir, showdown BB shows QQ for the straight". BTN says, "Whatever, I fold"
Dealer says, "Sir you need to push your chips in the pot if you can't beat the straight."
BTN says, "Why? I already put the $100 bet out there"
Dealer says, "Sir, the bet on turn was all-in and you said you called. I asked you twice and both times you said you called"
BTN is turning red, "That's bull****, I would have never called all-in with just one pair on that board" BTN turns over A K
Floor comes over and the dealer explained what happened and the table backs the dealer up. But BTN is refusing to put his chips in. He says, "What happens if I don't put my chips in?"
Floor says, "Then you will be banned from the casino."
By this time security comes over as well as the Floor manager's manager.
After about 2 more minutes of arguing his case, he shoves his chips into the pot, gets up and storms out of the casino.

How do you stop at a number as ugly as 5.575k, 6k or BUST!!!!!
And that getting half your bet back is the most tilting thing ever. I have a great casino war story to tell if I'm ever not too lazy to type it.
