You are completely ****ing clueless. Hitting 12v4 is a marginal mistake. It isn't HORRIBLE. Your inability to spell literally is HORRIBLE.

You mean my ability to spell literally? If you're talking about my inability to spell that word, it would be just as "horrible" as I only missed it by 1 letter. So, fail. If I had spelled it correctly, my "inability" would be 0%, hence, "horrible". However I am assuming you are attempting to insult my inability to spell a word.

So if I had spelled it with more entropy, say "leeittûrylàeh", my "inability" would have been exquisite

Just woke up about an hour ago.. Spent all night moving up the limits from a 50$ deposit to around 850..

Decided at play 50$ on an online slot at 8am. Lost. Bet 50 on blackjack got blackjack but so did the dealer. Doubled my bet to 100 and got 11 against a 4 showing. I caught a 4 for 15 while dealer had a 3 underneath and pulled a 10 for 17.

Lost the remainder of the balance within 15 minutes.

Yes I only "lost" 50 bucks but I had a solid roll once again for some grinding but in my hazy state this morning pulled the standard degen move and spewed. Took a few hours to finally fall asleep after that as I stared at the ceiling with that same empty " I did it again type feeling". In hindsight it was entertaining for the most part but it's almost like a solid win is never enough.

Idk how much longer I can keep doing this lol. The stress alone is a killer.

Maybe study the game before you play next time.

You realize if you win that hand it's a +$4800 swing and now you have chips and a chair to get some win potential...

Again why are you busting against a dealer 4? Doesn't matter the count either. Just auto tuck your hand next time bro. Wish you luck and hope to hear some more stories.
It is not that big of a swing to be honest on hitting a 12 vs a 4. The words in bold are not true. If the true count is negative you hit 12 vs a 4.

OK I think I'll add a story showing an example of my degen ways which started a long time ago; maybe it's more an example of how gambling is really about greed....

I was in Reno playing Blackjack at Harrah's and Harold's Club (that's how long ago this was) and caught a nice streak; I was playing 5/10/20 dollars a hand in those days......well, I won about $480 and decided to go to this other casino called the Comstock which was a couple of blocks off the main drag.....
The reason was b/c they used to advertise a 1-lb. NY Steak dinner for $5.99, and I decided I would take a break and have a steak.....so I walk into the place and of course the restaurant is way in the back, and passing the BJ tables, I suddenly thought, "I'm so hot, I'm gonna let Comstock buy my steak dinner too...So I toss a 20 dollar bill on a hand and I get KK....whoopee! I'm thinkin' the hand is won when the dealer hits herself for 21.....No prob, I'm thinking, tossing $40 on the next hand, which I promptly lose also.....well, now I'm pissed so I sit down (I had been standing, figuring I'd win the steak dinner money and go) and proceed to lose about $450; after this I dejectedly go to the restaurant and had the steak (which I didn't enjoy for obvious reasons besides which the meat was tough) which cost me
$450+ because I was too damn greedy and cheap to pay for my own dinner with the winnings I already had..........

they mailed me copies of the signed receipts for my cash advances. they stated I made the purchases and received the cash. The cc company did not really try my angle, just proved i actually got the cash. Which was not my argument for dispute at all. I think maybe with a lawyer I could have a chance, but then again for a few thousand its probably not worth it and i could possibly wind up with no money back and a trespassing charge. Im just going to pay it back. I would never thought of doing this a few years ago, or withdrawing from my 401k for gambling. I currently have a huge balance on my cc for me at least that I am paying off with retirement money. When I look at some of my stocks, especially international stocks right now are booming- 10-11% gains, why am i playing baccarat at -1%? If i have a stock at that rate, Im looking for better returns. Poker for me probably is the best bet, but then again, i just dont have the patience after years of degening $25 all the way to $2400 on a hand. Its so quick to win, and also so quick to lose. Poker requires the patience to wait for a good spot, fold alot, and grind. I like to spin a 1/2 buyin amount on roulette with a few numbers that will pay over $1000 and alot that will pay back $400. Its like stacking 4 other people in one hand when you hit. Its a huge rush to me, but i hate that I still driving old ass car, and working 2 jobs, and not really saving enough bc of gambling. But i have tp grind on. My father told me maybe one day I will win the world series of Pai Gow poker lol!

Straight...

You have the degen bug bad man. To be honest I think you prob need GA. I know I do and am pretty close to finally just owning up to the addiction and trying to beat it. Kinda done trying doing this on my own. I'm no where near at a low point as I've been way worse in the past but even my " in control" degening has been detrimental mentally and physically lately.

Gl bud. I know I'm gonna need it.

yes it was a bad move, but listen what happened tonight. I got my check from the 401k withdrawl. Paid off my debt. Only had $1000 left. I went to Monticello raceway, planning on playing 250 tops. Ended up i had a long day of hardcore high limit slots. Cycled 15k though the machines as I kept losing down a few hundred, coming back up a few hundred. Eventually lost the $1000. took 300 more, 3rd spin on a $10 slut, hit the progressive jackpot for $5000! It could have been higher as it reset at 4k, but im not complaining!. Hit a jackpot for $5000, that exactly what i needed, i told the cashier my hourly today was about $350 x 12 hours. Yes i played roulette and slots for 12 hours while sucking down coronas!! 5 minutes later a different guy hits same machine for 4k! I never saw that happen before, wish i had jumped back on it. I just had got back from getting paid at the cage. I kept playing, ended up with almost 6k profit tonight! What a run i had, i was down $1000 at the worst point, but never gave up, kept spinning and came out on top! I never play slots anymore, mostly because they are really bad bet i know and plus i am banned (self excluded ) almost everywhere. But this joint i am not, and they also are associated with a new casino coming to upstate NY which looks awesome. It will have poker, table games, a raceway with ferrari/Masseratis, golf, a real casino/resort for me to play! They said will open in 2.5 years. And i bet im getting some killer comps next month after my play today. I was a mad man betting $15 per spin on $5 slots 2 at a time. I even played a decent amount on the $25 double diamonds, held my own, although when losing its awful scary. They didnt have any $100 slots, but i did bet $50 a spin a few times, although no luck on those. Its crazy even a single bar double single bar wins 500 with a 25 spin! I want to get the lexus for sure this week now! man i feel good tonight, i cant even sleep! pockets just stuffed with benjis and cc is clear. Going to decrease the limit, try to straighten up. No just going to buy the lexus so i cant degen it away. I mean its not enough for the whole car, but i also have a trade and this will make my payment lower. Degen story that ended up preety damn good eh?

Straight, I love a good degen story as much as the next guy. I've had some impressively bad ones myself. As much as I enjoy reading through these and reminiscing on my time in the grips of degeneracy, the truth is nothing will change until you do. Sure you're running on a high right now, but if anything, it's more detrimental for you than beneficial. If you're anything like I was, you won't listen when people tell you to stop, pay off your CC, walk away. You'll continue, you'll have a bad night, which will turn into a few bad nights. Eventually, you'll be worse off than you were before you decided to withdraw from your 401k. I know this because I've been there. I've done the exact same things as you, just on a multiplied scale financially. I have gambled away over 1.5 years salary in the last year. I've had to borrow from my 401k, from family and friends. The truth is, unless you quit cold turkey, you never stop. Whether it be sports, pits, poker, pools, etc. This isn't new information for you, I'm sure you've heard it several times and from many different people before. Wishing the best for you man, you'd be surprised at how many people have experienced the exact same highs and lows.

When I was 6 or 7, I started gambling at marbles in elementary school. Got in trouble a few times. Whenever I lost more than $1 worth of marbles it was chaos. Like total ****ing chaos in my mind like that's value that's gone wtf have I done. I don't even know why I did it. What the hell was I going to do with marbles anyways? Sometimes I would borrow some siblings marbles from their collection to gamble with (and lose, read: get hussled by 6th graders).

In junior high I spent my lunch breaks flipping, playing blackjack and dice for quarters. Again, I don't know why I did it. Spend one semester gymming during lunch breaks and all of a sudden I catch the girls' eyes. But that was after I got in some serious trouble.. like local authorities sitting down with my parents and ****. Even got suspended a few times.

When I was "almost 17" I was making long trips to the casino (through public transit). Just the ride in itself was a high of anticipation. The casino was a palace to me back then. And any spontaneous idea of going to the casino would give me a high. I would play $5 a hand blackjack on the behind circle and every hand was like life and death. A $40 winning day would mean the world. I would only walk in with $40 and sometimes when I would lose it, I would withdraw $20 from the ATM, and pay a $5 fee. It was a disaster in the making.

Of course, over my mid-late 20's I've been through 5-figure and 6-figure swings on parlays and stuff. Having action on a sporting event during a social outting has always been an extra bit of high. As for your brain to tell yourself "look, you are alive, you are surrounded by people, but you are also omnipresent in a secret world, where in a few hours you can make more than anyone in the room has made this month". Winning a few thousand on a parlay during a special social outting was a special kind of high. Winning a parlay during a trip was an even more special kind of high.

Road trips, checking scores on phone, airport, anything of the sort. I would usually win at least one big parlay during trips. Maybe the science is true. Your mind is more alert when you're happy or in a different town. So gambling while on a trip was a special combination.

Also, during my mid-20's (at one of my lowest points ever), ie: no friends, no gf, no job, living with parents, maxed out everywhere, I would sometimes gather all the loose change in my room to put together a min buy-in for a live 1/2 NL session. One time I remember when I brought it up to $600 and facing an all in with A7 on a AJx7r board, I ended up folding and the town maniac shows J7. It was scared money at its finest. Sitting on about $800, only to lose it all on AA vs KK PFAI (K hits). Longest bus ride back (yes I did not have gas money at all, snuk into the public bus without paying). Just imagine.. some $1750 pot it was. While you're broke and have bills to pay, a few hundred here and there and the the juiciest 2/5 and 5/10 NL games were in town. I could still feel the pain from that $1750 and what that money meant at the time.

Sometimes I would pass by the cardroom serving free food for 2/5 NL players. Would buy-in for $300, order a steak, straddle. Everybody limps. I would punt it all with a hand like A9 or JTo and some hero would call it off with just as marginal of a hand like QJo or something. Most expensive and unenjoyable steak ever.

Today I am 31. I have a steady job in a large firm. Steady income that I would KILL to have just 5 years ago. But all that experience and credit building and discipline helped. I still play sports betting sometimes and MTT tourneys. But I have cut off all house games and cash games cold turkey. And it would have been an absolute perfect life if not for the break up with my dream girl last year.

Good story. I know the exact feeling you are talking about. The first time I went to the casino was soon after I turned 18 (a long time ago) with a group of friends. That night I won a couple hundred bucks. That summer I started making trips to the casino a couple of times a week, sometimes with friends, usually by myself. I would tell my parents I was going over to a friends house, then I would make the 1 hour drive up to the casino. When I reached my exit, and saw the bright lights, something triggered in my brain and I would start going 35 over the speed limit on the access road because I was so excited with anticipation. I would bring $130 with me, if I doubled it it was the greatest feeling in the world, if I lost it I felt like commiting suicide. That was about 7-8 years ago, nowadays I need to have at least five figures+ on the line to replicate that feeling.

MTT, did your parents know about all your gambling when you were living with them? Who/what inspired you to turn things around?

No. I would always make up stories like I was going clubbing, or to a friend's house or whatever. They eventually found out once Poker became popular and I started winning at Poker.

I bought my car with poker winnings in 2009. They know about that. But they also know I wrecked my credit and lost deep 5-figures in Vegas. At a certain age you don't care about telling your parents.. sometimes you need someone to verbally smack you and let you know that you ****ed up. Sometimes you need to let it out. They don't know just how degen I was/am. But they know it's in me.

Quote:

That girl. She is just, perfect in every way. Most forms of gambling don't give me the high anymore. Being with her was like heaven. I only bet on baseball parlays to keep myself sane at my boring square office job. And tourneys, I am up overall lifetime (live and online). But that "up" is overshadowed by irrational decisions.

Edit: I don't know actually what inspired me. I only met that girl like 2 years after being in the corporate world. And I was still semi-degen when with my first corporate job. Maybe something in the back of my mind. She would pop up every now and then on Facebook. So getting my **** together was probably something was clicked internally/biologically.
