I have become much better at this over the years, and I believe it´s the central key to my results. Of course I am far far far away from perfect, I can get distracted quite easily many times in a session just like we all can, but I try to regain my focus as quickly as possible and be mindful of what I am doing and want to be doing in this instant, which is multitabling No Limit.

As for your question, I´ll tell you how I have have dealt with similar leaks in the past and you can decide if it applies to your situation.

First off, you have to determine wether this strategy that you are applying is actually + or - EV. Perhaps because of the inherent disfunction of our brains in regards to variance we are making correct decisions that are yielding poor results.
If we determine this to not be the case, what I usually do is sit down before a session and actually define my goals for that session, often writing them down. Early in my career I noticed that it would take some time for me to settle in to my sessions and that for the first fifteen or twenty minutes of play I would often spew or in another way not play to the best of my abilities. As soon as I realized this I would, before every session, make it the primary goal of that session to play very tight for the first fifteen minutes, and discipline myself in some high variance situations that I would otherwise have entered. This became my primary goal, and I would feel a larger sense of accomplishment after those fifteen minutes then after any money won ar hours spent at the table thereafter, as money or hands were not part of my objectives for that day, but those fifteen minutes were. Gradually it became easier and easier for me to focus early in the sessions, and after about a month of doing this every day I no longer needed it, it had become second nature.

I hope this answers at least a part of your question, feel free to ask follow ups.
It seems like you see focus as the larger issue at hand here. I kind of take what you're saying to mean that a well-focused player would not make the mistakes against poor players (my leak). I think this is probably accurate.

I definitely like you're idea of disciplining oneself at the beginning of a session in order to kind of train yourself to be patient and to find your rhythm. It's very practical advice--some that I'll put to use.

I feel like I need clarification about something but can't put my finger on how to phrase it. I'm probably overthinking something. In either case...thanks for the prompt response!

I think my answer above adresses this in part. The moments that I am distracted or not midful of what i am doing are the times that I am on autopilot, otherwise I am absolutely trying to tailor my game to individual opponents.

Boywonder: it is quite obvious that many people find you and your play inspirational, but which players inspire you?

I understand exactly what this means, and I have often felt this myself about a lot of these "soft" values when it comes to poker, values I have thought about a lot during the past few years. I can tell you this; that if you work on them from any angle , be it mine or yours or somebody elses (and so few players do), things will become much clearer. Not in the sense that what worked for me works for you, but that you will get to know what works for you specifically.

Boywonder do you strictly play 6 max or do a lot of your games consist of shorthanded and heads up?
