As for your question, I´ll tell you how I have have dealt with similar leaks in the past and you can decide if it applies to your situation.
First off, you have to determine wether this strategy that you are applying is actually + or - EV. Perhaps because of the inherent disfunction of our brains in regards to variance we are making correct decisions that are yielding poor results.
If we determine this to not be the case, what I usually do is sit down before a session and actually define my goals for that session, often writing them down. Early in my career I noticed that it would take some time for me to settle in to my sessions and that for the first fifteen or twenty minutes of play I would often spew or in another way not play to the best of my abilities. As soon as I realized this I would, before every session, make it the primary goal of that session to play very tight for the first fifteen minutes, and discipline myself in some high variance situations that I would otherwise have entered. This became my primary goal, and I would feel a larger sense of accomplishment after those fifteen minutes then after any money won ar hours spent at the table thereafter, as money or hands were not part of my objectives for that day, but those fifteen minutes were. Gradually it became easier and easier for me to focus early in the sessions, and after about a month of doing this every day I no longer needed it, it had become second nature.
I hope this answers at least a part of your question, feel free to ask follow ups.

It seems like you see focus as the larger issue at hand here. I kind of take what you're saying to mean that a well-focused player would not make the mistakes against poor players (my leak). I think this is probably accurate.
I definitely like you're idea of disciplining oneself at the beginning of a session in order to kind of train yourself to be patient and to find your rhythm. It's very practical advice--some that I'll put to use.
I feel like I need clarification about something but can't put my finger on how to phrase it. I'm probably overthinking something. In either case...thanks for the prompt response!
