So like the title says, I was bored and had 55 bucks. Buddy says there's a tourney on at the River Cree in Edmonton... so we both go to it.

First hand, everyone has 150bb...

5 callers, to me... Q7os. Pretty ****ty hand and online it's an insta-fold... but with all these people calling, I just feel like I almost always am going to know where I'm at- and that they can make a lot of mistakes.

Well, I flop 2 pair and stack some guy who didn't let go of an ace. Live poker is fun.

Few hands later, QQ vs AK and I hold up... that was nice.

That's about all that happened until 15 players left of 60ish +rebuys. I noticed the table tightened up a bit as everyone was trying to wait until the merge. With blinds and antes, I just autoraised every hand to 3x. One guy folded JJ face up... and he was shortstacked too. It felt like back in 2003.

I made over 30 blinds in steals alone... and never got reshoved on once.

Get to the final table where I eliminate EVERY SINGLE PLAYER.

I'm head's up with this guy, final 2, and he folds the first hand he plays...

2nd hand, he says, "Hey, do you just want to take 1st place? You have more chips than me. I give up. You can have it."

$250 difference between 1st and 2nd. I ask the dealer if we can do that and he says "yep."

I agree and the dealer starts saying some stuff out loud that I'm not really paying attention to until he deals both hands face up. He then announces, "the winner of this hand will be the winner of the tournament." I try to interject because that's not what I said... and not what I wanted, but he just keeps ripping out cards. I run A3 into AJ... somehow spike the turn and they end it. I keep trying to tell the guy that isn't what I said, but he says "we just need something for the cameras."

Well, sketchy or not... I ship the thing. Never had a guy just give me $250 because "you have more chips."

And people think poker is dead...

Well I'm glad something of interest actually happened, I'd be so annoyed with not only you but also myself if I had just read about how you fluked a tournament. Honestly I have no idea what happened there, but I would for sure stop proceedings as soon as he started dealing hands face up declaring "winner of this wins!" Did you not ask after you won? Go back to the casino, ask them what happened and then post results.

Never heard of something like this "winner of this hand" thing. I was heads-up once in a tourney and we decided to split 50:50 at some point when the stacks were pretty even. Since the tourney was some kind of special event we then shoved pre to get an official winner.

Did not read your ****ty thread. All I saw was Cree in the title and though I had to come to the rescue of my fellow brethren who had fallen at the behest of you making this thread.

Gentleman and Gentleman, cause who are we kidding there's no ladies in the cesspool of BBV, I present to you Ashley Sittingbull Burnham. Our newest Mrs Universe who just so happens to be Cree.

I've also never heard of something like this... and I have chopped many pots in many different ways for tourneys. That's why I kept trying to hault the hand. I don't know what the hell they were trying to pull- but I don't have to complain since I won. Next time I'm going to make sure to get a floor-man in on the situation.

maybe they were saying you would get the $ either way but they needed to declare an official winner for whatever reason

e.g. :

$750 and change- so a profit of nearly 7 hundo.

Not my biggest takedown, but this is the first time in poker when someone ever just gave me $250. The guy in 3rd actually grilled me about it after. He was like, "So he just gave you the money? Like, he didn't want to just go all-in or something?"

It was strange man.

I guess they award points based on what place you finish... but a concession is a concession. I think what you guys are saying makes sense. They have to award a 1st place for the purpose of their documentation system... but shouldn't I be awarded that no matter what?

Like, this kinda thing never happened to me in the past. How often are you the one that takes everyone out at the final table of an MTT?

In the final table of an MTT, everyone is generally super short (average stack 12bb). What usually happens is I get a cooler hand, something like TT vs AQ or AK vs PP and double up immediately to one of the top 3 stacks and 4th is usually not even close.

Spoiler:
Either that or I get eliminated in a standard spot. But assuming all goes well...

At this point I have 20-30bb in my stack and optimal play is often to just fold and let everyone else eliminate each other. Flops seldom happen. Loose showdowns seldom happen. There are a few ICM steal spots.

Once down to 3-4 players, we discuss an ICM chop.

So to answer to your question, no it doesn't not happen often at all that I eliminate every single player. If that happened, you, or the other players (or both) likely played horrible and had some major ICM fails in your play.

Maybe you just got SnG wiz or something and you think you know a lot more than you do. ICM is important- especially if the hands are face up. There are a lot of ATC positions you can get in during tournaments... but when you have over 100bb and you look down at AQ and some guy shoves 5bb... and you're the big blind... it's a snap call every time. You didn't ask about the situation, but I guess that's not important. Me personally, I have never found a spot to fold AA preflop. I know ICM dictates that you should (at times), but I never have and never will.

Yea, it's true... live-players are garbage AND I went on a crazy run of cards AND I held up a lot AND I got a little lucky when I didn't have them crushed AND I had all the chips (so many that some guy just surrendered- no contest).

Let's take it off the sour note though, cabbage patch.

In other news, there was a really cute old couple at this tournament. This guy has been playing with his wife for the better part of 10 years. I remembered him from when I first started playing poker. We had a little chat while I was there, and it was nice to see them still kicking around. I hope when I retire... my wife is like that.

I can't think of a spot you should fold AA unless it's a survivor/satellite tourney with equal payouts.

Else, sure, if you're at the FT, you're the SS and everyone else (with equal stacks) goes all in before you and you're almost guaranteed 2nd place, then go ahead and fold your AA. I've never folded AA either but I've found a spot where "if I get delt AA next hand and player X shoves, I will fold AA". It was during a satellite with three shorties under 2BB.

How exactly would it look for the cameras if he held and you had him covered?

Does not compute
