It's not even a matter of past or present tense.
In English spelt and spelled are interchangeable. So you can say "this is/was
spelled wrong" or "this is/was
spelt wrong". I believe "spelled" is however the prefered spelling in the US.
Still, it always makes me laugh when I see an American correcting someone for using the proper UK English spelling of a word. Did you never consider that maybe
you could be wrong?
