There are more pathological gamblers on here than most. You aren't really a degen, since you really get bothered when you lose in -ev games. So, you know better, and don't really want to play negative expectation games. I think a true degen just loves playing those games no matter what.
But don't feel bad. Guys like Bobby Knight are pathological when coaching basketball. John McEnroe was pathological when playing tennis. There are pathological stock traders, and pathological auto mechanics.
The key is to do whatever it takes to avoid the places where you know the wheels can come off. You see it all the time with poker plays. A guy like TJ Cloutier is a known craps degenerate, and I have never heard of him announcing that he had a problem with it. That is what he has to do, just like most have to drink water. He accepts that as part of him.
But you, like many, put your identity on the line when you are gambling, and that creates danger, as it will usually create a situation where you just want to win, so you can be a human being again.
We all have issues. Donald Trump is a terrible person with very low self esteem, so he makes sure he plays in an arena where he is always Donald Trump, and NOT a regular person. He knows that if his personality matched up with the normal rules of society that he would be the big loser, so he plays games he can win.
So, you are going to have to just avoid activities that lead to the big blowouts. Everyone is vulnerable to something. Geniuses smoke cigarettes, and if the price went up to $100 per pack many would be homeless and robbing banks to get their fix. So, know your self, and try to protect yourself the best way you can.
I have been through similar emotional swings at least 1,000 times. You have to somehow climb the mountain again and then, when you are feeling good, you have to remember the pain of your past mistakes so that you won't even think about doing it again.
The problem is that when you feel good you will think you can manage the bad habits. Like that Brad Booth video the other day. Here is a guy going down in flames and committing crimes throughout the world, yet he states that he is no longer going to play Pit Games, Drink Alcohol, or Play Online....until he is back on top/in control.....wow. That video said it all.
