BEAT: Lost everything playing poker, have become human guinea pig for drug company to play more

A few months ago, things started going downhill, and I went from being a sometimes-up, sometimes-down PLO gambler, to a degenerate with dreams of escaping the grind that used his entire life savings to take ridiculous shots, most of which failed, horrendously, and inevitably ended up completely broke. It was the outcome I had always feared, and then it was real. My relationship of one year finally reached it's inevitable destination and we parted ways without any malice. Around this time I also injured my back at work for the second time, suffering a prolapsed disc that makes my spine look like an S-shape when viewed from the front. I’m still getting my paycheck, but am not really enjoying life feeling like a cripple and being isolated from my former work friends. After rent and bills, I usually proceed to piss the rest away trying to get it all back. Facing all these circumstances and in feeling the desperation, I have taken a fairly drastic step... I agreed to enter a medical facility for 42 days and become a human guinea pig for experimental drugs. Why? For money ldo.

It’s a pretty strange experience. As I write all this I’m wired up with a halter monitor, telemetry, e.c.g. cables, and have a canulla sticking out of my arm for taking blood samples without the need of a needle. I’m in a room with seven other guys, between the ages of 21 and 40. I’m free to move around pretty much as I please between this room and the adjoining rec room, hallways, bathrooms etc, but I cannot leave the unit. It’s day 13 of 42. This is my home for another 30 days.

As the institute is located within a hospital, you can pretty much envision the general feel of the place. Hospital smell that you get used to, lousy food (not that I really mind), crappy beds with plastic sheets and those plastic curtains on rails that you can pull around for privacy (but cannot block out the sound of your fellow subjects snoring). On the plus side are the nurses. Without them it would feel too much like jail, I’m definitely appreciative of the presence of some women. I’d like to get pics of the better looking ones but it’s actually strictly forbidden to take ANY photos within this place – I’ve taken a big risk taking the pics I have as it’s a direct violation of the confidentiality laws and they have signs up all around the place saying the use of camera phones is prohibited, but they can’t watch us all the time!

POV from my bed. Spend a lot of time in this position, thank satan for laptops

The view of the entrance to the emergency ward from my window. Plenty of strange voyeuristic opportunities available, especially on a Friday/Saturday night

Yours truly, only moderately wired up at time of photo.

Despite being incarcerated in a medical facility with total strangers and being drugged and being poked daily with needles, I have been fortunate enough to draw a bunch of fellow poker players as my roomates! Day and night the sound of virtual chips clicking and splashing is standard, and it's funny how often Aces are getting raped when called AIPF by random junk. I have to wait a few days before getting paid, but when I do I'm going to deposit a hundred and grind mtt's.

Feel free to ask me about my experience, I'm more than happy to answer any questions that will help me pass the time

Cliffs:

- Went on life tilt and blew savings
- Broke up with girlfriend and reinjured back at work
- Heard about drug company offering $$ for human testing
- Going to grind micro mtt's and try to rebuild

I had almost 7k saved up, which might not be much to some but what can I say, pretty good considering how ****** my wage was. The gig's paying 8k

But Op, you missed out. For sure you could have made some money with a prop bet that you wouldn't donate your body to science for 42 days or something.

Heck I woulda probably taken $1k action.

Haha damn you're right! Too bad I didn't think that far ahead. Thanks for subscribing, I think it's safe to say that some serious cabin fever is going to set in here. We're not even a third of the way through yet and already people are starting to lose it

Poker does some good things for the world. In this case, it is advancing medical research.

Also, good taste in books OP.

Thanks Apart from The Border Trilogy I also brought Leaving Las Vegas, and The Poker Mindset. Also a copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People, but I think it's possibly a beat to admit that :P found it for a buck at a second hand store and recognized it from Assassination of Richard Nixon

Fair enough, although I thought by including pics people might be more inclined to believe me. I'm sure as thread progresses it'll become obvious that I'm not making it up.
